    According to NRF Retail Horizons Benchmark Report, two key initiatives to keep retailers competitive in 2010 were optimization and streamlining of their internal operations to reduce operating costs and improving their customer centricity to win the share of wallet.

  • Macy’s sells back stake in The Knot

    New York City --- The Knot, a media company that targets brides-to-be and pregnant women, said Monday that Macy's has sold back its 10.7% stake in The Knot for $37.7 million.

    The Knot did not give a reason for the repurchase and said it is part of a previously announced $50 million buyback plan.

    The sale doesn't affect the companies' advertising and wedding registry agreements: The Knot will continue to direct wedding-minded readers to Macy's and Bloomingdale's registries, and Macy's will keep advertising in The Knot's media properties.

    NEW YORK -- Macy's has launched a new service to bring exclusive video content to users' mobile phones. Using QR code and SMS technology, Macy's Backstage Pass will provide consumers with essential tips, information on the latest trends, advice and inspiration straight from their favorite style icons, the company reported.

  • Walmart taps Facebook users to help fight hunger

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart said it will present more than $1.5 million to nonprofits in six U.S. communities, thanks to Facebook users' help with the retailer's commitment to fight hunger through 2015.

    Walmart's Fighting Hunger Together campaign called on Facebook users to go to Walmart.com/fighthunger and "like" one of the 100 hungriest communities in the United States, as ranked by the Food Research and Action Center. More than 10 million votes were cast during the campaign, which ran from Nov. 15 through Dec. 31.

    Redmond, Wash. -- PlayNetwork said Thursday it has launched into the European market and acquired Absolute Audio Systems Ltd., a U.K.-based provider of commercial media products and A/V systems integration services across Europe.

  • Walmart Canada selects DiJiPOP for digital shelf space monetization

    Providence, R.I. -- DijiPOP, a leading provider of on-demand digital shopper marketing technology solutions, announced that Walmart Canada has selected the company to power the digital shelf space monetization efforts of its rapidly growing Walmart.ca online property.

    As a complement to Walmart Canada’s current advertiser program, DiJiPOP’s technology will integrate deeply with Walmart Canada’s existing proprietary vendor portal, allowing Walmart.ca vendors to reserve premium shelf space.

  • Shopper marketing Canadian style

    Walmart Canada has selected DiJiPOP to provide on-demand shopper marketing technology solutions for its e-commerce site and to help power digital shelf space monetization efforts. DiJiPOP’s solution will complement Walmart Canada’s current advertiser program and provide a fully automated platform to more effectively connect brand marketing dollars with digital shelf space while integrating with the retailer’s existing proprietary vendor portal. Doing so will allow suppliers to reserve premium shelf space on the site.

  • Nordstrom to acquire HauteLook

    Seattle -- Nordstrom announced today it has entered into an agreement to acquire HauteLook, a leader in the online private sale marketplace. The company said the acquisition will enable Nordstrom to participate in the fast-growing private sale marketplace and provide a platform to increase innovation and speed in the way it serves customers in all channels.
