  • Oracle World Retail Awards: Call for entries

    New York City -- Retailers from around the world have until May 20 to enter the annual global competition, the Oracle World Retail Awards. Online entry is open at worldretailcongress.com.

    The awards, designed to recognize the outstanding innovation and creativity delivered by l retailers worldwide, are presented each year at a gala event during the World Retail Congress. This year’s presentation will be held Sept. 27 in Berlin.

  • Sears gives gloomy outlook ahead of annual meeting

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Sears Holdings will host its annual meeting on May 4, and attendees present will likely want to know how the company plans to improve sales and return to profitability under the leadership of its new CEO, Lou D’Ambrosio.

    NAPERVILLE, Ill.  -- OfficeMax announced that it has been recognized as a JDA Software Group 2011 Real Results Winner for best in demand management.   • Target exec joins chain drug board

    Jose Barra, SVP health care and beauty at Target, is among four new members elected to join the 21-member board of directors of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS). Barra’s appointment was announced at the NACDS Annual Meeting held this week in Scottsdale, Ariz. Other new members include, Jerry Cline, SVP retail sales and marketing at Good Neighbor Pharmacy; Lynne Fruth, chairman of the board of Fruth Pharmacy and Steve Kaczynski, CEO of Navarro Discount Pharmacies.

  • Sam's Club to offer skin health screenings

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam's Club is offering skin health screenings to customers on May 14 as part of Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

     Sam's Club shoppers will offer skin assessments, which will be conducted by U.S. Wellness, to both members and non-members. U.S. Wellness will conduct DermaScan skin tests, which use Type A ultraviolet light to show sun damage that is invisible to the naked human eye. The retailer added that it will offer free DermaScan skin tests to the first 100 participants who sign up in each club.
