  • Sam's Club salutes military members with new membership offering

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Members of the military can enjoy savings at Sam's Club with the introduction of a new membership offering.

    The retailer said that when military personnel — including those active or retired, their spouses and civilian military employees — join or renew as an advantage member or advantage plus member, the company will provide them with a $15 Sam's Club gift card to each primary membership.

    Proof of military identification is required and the offer cannot be combined with any other membership offers, Sam's Club noted.

  • Buffalo Exchange to open at Washington, D.C.’s 14th Street corridor

    Bethesda, Md. -- Retail brokerage Streetsense said Monday that Tucson, Ariz.-based fashion re-seller Buffalo Exchange will open its first store in Washington, D.C., in the first quarter of 2012.

    Buffalo Exchange leased a two-level, 4,245-sq.-ft. store in the heart of the city’s 14th Street corridor. Streetsense also has been engaged to do the design and interior architecture for the store, which will be its 42nd U.S. location.

     

  • Dollar General to offer military discount on Veterans Day

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General announced that is honoring men and women who have served our country in the military with a special Veterans Day discount. On Friday, Nov. 11, all veterans, active duty military, National Guard and Reserve and their immediate families will receive a 10% discount at Dollar General stores. Shoppers at www.dollargeneral.com will also be eligible to receive 10% off their purchase Nov. 11 through Nov. 13 using the code VETERANSDAY at checkout.

  • Versona Accessories to open at Lakeside Village

    Lakeland, Fla. -- Columbus, Ohio-based Casto said that Versona Accessories will open its newest store on November 17 at Lakeside Village, in Lakeland, Fla.

    The women’s accessories retailer is a concept of The Cato Corp.
     

  • Food Lion raises $4.2 million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals

    SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion announced that this year's fundraising campaign to benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals totaled $4.2 million.

    This year's donation represents a 43% increase over last year, Food Lion said. The supermarket chain, which has supported CMN Hospitals since 1991, has raised more than $40 million for the organization.

  • Kirkland’s Q3 same-store sales fall

    Nashville, Tenn. -- Kirkland's Inc. raised its third-quarter earnings outlook Thursday after total revenue rose because of store expansion.

    Total revenue rose 4.7% to $97.1 million in the August-to-October period. Same-store sales fell 3.6%.

    The home-decor store said it now expects earnings of 3 cents to 5 cents per share, up from its previous prediction of a quarterly loss.

  • Whole Foods Q4 income surges 31%

    Austin, Texas -- Whole Foods Market reported that its fiscal fourth-quarter profit rose 31% to $75.5 million on higher sales, beating analysts' expectations. But the company's outlook for next year's profit fell just short of what analysts forecast on average.

    Revenue increased 12% to $2.35 billion.

  • Walmart answers the 'Call of Duty' with early game preview

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Customers who can't wait to get their hands on the latest "Call of Duty" video game are in for some good news courtesy of Walmart. The retailer announced that on Nov. 7 in more than 2,700 stores customers can play "Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3." The event begins at 8 p.m. (local time) and will include tournaments and the chance to win double experience points with every purchase of specially-marked 20-packs of Mountain Dew, exclusively at Walmart.
