More than 50,000 sq. ft. of new shopping opportunities will soon be presented to shoppers at Ohio’s most popular retail destination.   Easton Town Center, which draws 21 million customer visits a year and houses more than 200 shopping and dining options is constantly in the process of re-curating its mix, and eight new tenants will open at the Columbus venue this year.  

Amazon is giving new meaning to the phrase "Christmas in July."  

The nation’s fastest-growing planned community keeps speeding along.   The Tavistock development, which already has 12,000 permanent residents, will add another thousand visitors a week thanks to a KPMG training facility that broke ground this week. In addition, the $400 million facility will house an employee staff of 330.  

A J.C. Penney store is going to be displaced by a fancy fitness club.   Simon announced that the J.C. Penney store at Southdale Center, in Edina, Minn., will close and be replaced by a Life Time fitness center, or ‘athletic resort.’ Expected to open in early 2019, the three-level facility will be operated by Life Time, which currently runs 123 centers in the United States. The centers are designed as one-stop fitness shops offering tennis, swimming, basketball, and yoga along with weight loss and nutrition education.

Cautious consumers kept spending in check in May.     Retail sales in May were essentially unchanged on a seasonally adjusted basis after an upwardly revised gain of 0.6% in April, according to the National Retail Federation. The NRF numbers exclude automobiles, gasoline stations and restaurants.   In May, sales were 5.3% above the year-ago level on an unadjusted basis and increased four percent on a 3-month moving average year-over-year.   

BJ's Wholesale Club is set to open its first location in South Carolina.   The retailer will celebrate the grand opening of its new location in Summerville, South Carolina on Saturday, June 10. The store, which marks BJ's expansion into South Carolina, is located at the intersection of Interstate 26 and North Main Street, Summerville's primary retail corridor.  

Mall management veteran Jeannette Smith has been named general manager of OKC Outlets, which changed hands last month.   CBL sold the former Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City to The Outlet Resource Group and Singerman Real Estate in May for $38 million. The new owners changed the center’s name to OKC Outlets in a RECon show ceremony presided over by Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett.
