  • Oracle Retail adds IBM exec to talent team

    Oracle Retail begins 2015 with a former top IBM exec in a key leadership role and several key acquisitions under its belt as the technology leader looks to help retailers achieve differentiated shopping experiences.

    Oracle Retail named Jill Puleri as Senior Vice President and General Manager reporting to Mike Webster, Oracles Senior Vice President and General Manager, Retail and Hospitality. Puleri most recently served as Worldwide Retail Industry Leader for IBM Global Business Services.

  • Experts predict fraud trends for 2015

    The new year will bring more fraud than ever before, but also more tools to prevent it, according to three experts from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).

    The experts at ACFE were asked for their top fraud predictions for 2015. They weighed in on digital currencies, information security and other issues that will help shape the effort to prevent and detect fraud in the new year:

  • Big Lots holiday spot wins Ad Age acclaim

    It remains to be seen how Big Lots performed this holiday season, but the closeout retailer’s catchy and original television advertising drew accolades from industry experts.

    In a recent piece in Ad Age, Big Lot’s holiday campaign “Nailed It” was singled out by writer Ken Wheaton as the top campaign of the season.

  • NRF gives $100K to next generation of retailers

    The best and the brightest college students interested in retail careers will receive $100,000 in grants from the National Retail Federation (NRF) on Jan. 11 in New York City.

    The NRF Foundation will award the scholarships to 24 outstanding students as a part of its Next Generation Scholarship program.

    This year students will also be awarded a travel scholarship to attend NRF’s Big Show and NRF Student Program in New York City.

  • Tractor Supply campaign yields $763K for 4-H

    Tractor Supply Company has strengthened its partnership with the National 4-H Council by taking in $763,283 for the organization during a 10-day national in-store fundraiser.

    With the $1.5 million Tractor Supply raised during spring and fall campaigns, Tractor Supply has now donated nearly $6.5 million to 4-H programs across the country in just over four years.

  • Brawny gets ‘tough’ to raise $2M for vets

    Brawny paper towels are known for being tough, but now the brand is standing strong with wounded service members in need of help.

    Georgia-Pacific, the maker of Brawny, announced it has raised $2 million for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) following its third year of partnering together. WWP is a national organization dedicated to honoring and empowering wounded service members transitioning back to civilian life through unique, direct programs and services.

  • Jo-Ann offers vets discount

    Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores has reinforced its support of the military by introducing an everyday 10 percent discount for all past or present members of the armed forces and their families.

    The nation’s leading fabric and craft specialty retailer with 850 stores said all military members, past or present, and their families qualify for the 10 percent everyday discount. To receive the discount, customers must provide proof of military service or military dependent ID upon checkout. The discount is valid in-store only.

  • Sears an ‘enormous loser’ this holiday

    Former top Sears executive Mark Cohen is at it again with harsh words recently about Sears holiday performance and long term viability.

    Cohen, former chairman and CEO of Sears Canada turned teacher at Columbia’s business school, appeared on CNBC to share his views on a holiday season with top line growth that appears to have exceeded earlier forecasts.

    “Sears again is going to be an enormous loser,” Cohen said.

    Technology will give fraudsters an edge in 2015, but it will also provide new tools for organizations and investigators, according to three experts from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) who were asked for their top fraud predictions for 2015.
