  • Edens selected to revitalize grocery-anchored center with mix of uses

    Edens and Montgomery County Maryland announced the redevelopment of Burtonsville Crossing and the adjacent park-and-ride lot located in Burtonsville, Maryland.

    In 2014, Edens was selected by Montgomery County to develop the adjacent surface parking lot while continuing to provide commuter parking at this strategic location.

  • CMA appoints new marketing coordinator

    CMA architecture firm Principal Patrick G. Blees announced Nicole Urista has joined the firm’s Minneapolis office to further develop CMA’s growing  portfolio of regional and national accounts. 

    Urista’s key responsibilities are to assist leadership with business development and coordinate all marketing efforts while facilitating the continued growth of CMA.

  • Cult Japanese retailer lands in New York

    Another global fashion retailer has made its U.S. debut.

    Tokyo-based Tomorrowland , which has a cult following in its home country,  has opened a store in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. The retailer, which operates some 160 stores in Japan, is known for its cool fashions, upmarket prices and sleek, minimalist ambience.

    The 3,200-sq.-ft. store features the brand’s exclusive men’s and women’s collections, along with a curated selection from several contemporary labels.  

  • Walmart details seasonal hiring plans

    More associates working more hours to elevate the customer experience is the pledge Walmart COO Judith McKenna is making to holiday shoppers this season.

    The day after Kohl’s, Toys “R” Us and UPS announced ambitious holiday hiring plans, Walmart said it would add 60,000 seasonal workers after giving existing workers the opportunity to pick up extra hours.

    Walmart has figured out how to tap into its shoppers’ offline habits to drive more engagement online, according to a new report from Quartz.

    Walmart has managed to do something very few retailers have accomplished: Convince millions of people its mobile app is useful enough to snag a prime spot on their phones’ home screen.

  • Target workers OK first union in company’s history

    A group of pharmacy workers within Target Corp's store in Brooklyn, N.Y., have won a vote to form a micro-union, making it the first unionized store at the retailer since its inception in 1902, according to Reuters.

    A group of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians won an initial ballot, 7-2, to form the union, according to a filing on the National Labor Relations Board website and union officials, the report said.

  • Former Famous Footwear exec takes top marketing role at Crocs

    Crocs Inc. has promoted one of its marketing directors to be the company's next chief marketing officer,

    The company announced that Terence Reilly was promoted to SVP and CMO. In this new role, Reilly will lead the global marketing team in Niwot, Colo., providing strategic direction and support to the company's regional and country marketing teams across the globe.  He will continue to oversee all aspects of Crocs' marketing, including the company's brand, advertising, consumer and social media campaigns.

  • CBL putting out welcome mat for kids with interactive play areas

    CBL is giving shoppers with kids a fun reason to visit its centers.

    CBL & Associates Properties and Playtime have entered into a multi-year partnership with Fisher-Price, Inc., a leading infant and preschool toy manufacturers, and a subsidiary of Mattel, Inc., to design soft play areas at select CBL centers nationwide.

  • Online footwear retailer sprints toward faster delivery

    Vancouver-based specialty online footwear retailer Shoes.com is sprinting toward new levels of fast delivery.

    Shoes.com is offering home and office delivery in two hours or less on select items on its Canadian website.

    The service costs $19.95 per order and launches Thursday, Sept. 17 in Vancouver and Toronto and surrounding municipalities, with plans to expand to Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal and Ottawa by the end of 2015.

    Shoes.com will use a network of local fulfillment centers that have access to the retailer’s technology, operations and marketing.

  • Paster partners on new mixed-use project

    Minnetonka, Minn. — Real estate developer Paster Properties and multi-family property developer and manager Bader Development, have begun construction at 1700 Plymouth Road, a six-story, 155,000-sq.-ft., mixed-use redevelopment project in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Paster Properties president Howard Paster and Bader Development VP of acquisitions and development Robb Bader made the announcement.
