  • Dick’s Sporting Goods to Oakwood Center in Gretna, La.

    Pittsburgh — Dick’s Sporting Goods has announced the grand opening weekend of its new location in Oakwood Center in Gretna, La., beginning Sept. 13.

    The Gretna location will be the retailer’s fifth store in Louisiana and its 530th nationwide.

     

  • Susser Holdings Corp. CEO appointed chairman

    Corpus Christie, Texas -- Susser Holdings Corp. announced that Sam L. Susser has been appointed chairman of the board of directors of SUSS, effective immediately. He will retain his position as CEO of the company, which he has held since 1992.

    Bruce W. Krysiak, the current board chairman, will become lead independent director.  

     

  • Kroger Q2 profit rises 14%

    Cincinnati -- The Kroger C0.’s second-quarter net income rose 14%, helped by lower charges and increased revenue. The supermarket company also lifted the low end of its fiscal 2013 outlook for a key revenue metric.

  • Simon has plenty to say at GS event

    Walmart president and CEO Bill Simon prefaced his comments at the Goldman Sach Global Retailing Conference by saying he wouldn’t have much to say. That proved to not be the case as Simon said a lot about a wide range of subjects.
     

  • Bi-Lo to buy 22 Piggly Wiggly stores; Harris Teeter to buy six

    New York -- In separate announcements on Thursday, Bi-Lo Holdings and Harris Teeter on Thursday announced plans to acquire select Piggly Wiggly-branded stores.

    Bi-Lo said it has entered into a definitive agreement with Piggly Wiggly Carolina Company to acquire 22 Piggly Wiggly stores in South Carolina and coastal Georgia.  

    Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

  • Winick signs Bareburger into Columbus Square

    New York — Organic burger restaurant Bareburger has signed a lease for 1,875 sq. ft. at 795 Columbus Avenue in New York City. It will be the chain’s first Upper West Side location as well as the first sit-down restaurant to lease space in the Columbus Square development project.

    Winick Realty Group represented Bareburger in the transaction.

     

  • Del Monte bolsters pet business with new hire following first quarter results

    Economic issues in Venezuela and fruit supply constraints affected Del Monte’s consumer business for the first quarter ended July 28. The company’s pet business, however, offset volume declines and helped net sales increase 0.3% to $823.9 million from $821.1 million for the prior-year quarter.
