  • Starbucks’ Howard Schultz is not running for president

    New York -- Starbucks Corp. founder and CEO — and currently Time Magazine cover boy — Howard Schultz has lots of opinions about politics and the national agenda, but he is not interested in running for president in 2016.

    “I don’t think that’s a solution. I don’t think it ends well,” Schultz told Time in a wide-ranging interview its Feb. 16 edition.   

  • Retail vet named COO of digital marketing innovator Delivery Agent

    San Francisco -- Delivery Agent, whose technology allows television viewers to engage with and buy directly from advertisements and television shows via web, mobile, and advanced television applications, has tapped board member James Peters as president and COO. Peters previously held key leadership roles at Office Depot, Staples and Ross Stores.

  • Aaron’s 2014 profit down 35% in 2014

    Atlanta -- Rent-to-own retailer Aaron’s saw its profit drop 35% in 2014 amid declining traffic and weak sales. The company, which operates some 2,100 stores, was also impacted by hurt by various charges related to restructuring and the acquisition of Progressive Leasing.

    Aaron’s reported net earnings of $78.2 million for 2014, compared to $120.7 million in 2013.

  • Ex-Victoria's Secret CEO joins Brown Shoe board

    Brown Shoe Company has added the former CEO of Victoria’s Secret to its board of directors. 

    “Adding Lori Greeley -- a well-known and highly-respected leader in retail -- to our board of directors gives us the benefit of her more than 20 years of experience,” said Diane Sullivan, CEO, president and chairman of Brown Shoe Company. “Her energy and passion for the business and her leadership skills will be a welcome addition to our company.”

  • Luxottica veteran joins Coach board

    Coach Inc. has added a luxury retail veteran to its board of directors.

    “We are extremely pleased that Andrea Guerra has agreed to join our board,” said Victor Luis, CEO at Coach Inc. “As Coach continues its transformation into a modern luxury lifestyle brand, Andrea's extensive exposure to a wide variety of best-in-class brands and his broad retail and international experience will prove valuable to our team."

  • Ross to open two new stores in Houston market

    Dublin, Calif. -- Ross Dress for Less will open two new stores in the Houston area on March 7.

    The stores are located in the Center at Pearland Parkway in East Pearland, 15 miles from downtown Houston; and Ravenwood Village Shopping Center in Huntsville. With these new locations, Ross will operate 170 stores in Texas, its second largest state.

    Together, Ross Dress for Less and dd’s Discounts currently operate over 1,300 off-price apparel and home fashion stores in 33 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.
     

  • YellowKorner joins The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale

    Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale, a premier regional mall in Broward County, Florida, has added France-based YellowKorner, a limited edition photo gallery, to its mix of more than 100 specialty retailers. YellowKorner is located across from Dillard’s upper mall entrance and next to Natuzzi in the nearly one million-sq.-ft. mall.

  • PriceSmart starts off New Year strong

    San Diego – Early results of 2015 suggest it will be a happy New Year indeed for PriceSmart Inc. For the month of January 2015, net sales increased 13.3% to $219.2 million from $193.5 million in January a year earlier.

    The retailer’s growth to 36 warehouse stores from 32 a year earlier helped boost sales. In addition, same-store warehouse sales grew 1.7%.
