  • Lululemon strikes profitable pose in Q1

    Vancouver – Lululemon Athletica Inc. struck a pose of profitability in the first quarter of fiscal 2015. Net income more than doubled to $47.8 million from $19 million a year earlier, aided by the elimination of a tax expense.

    Net revenue increased 10% to $423.5 million, from $384.6 million. A 27% hike in direct-to-consumer net revenue, which now represents 20% of total company revenue, helped drive the overall improvement. Same-store sales dropped 1%.

  • Cabela’s continues Canadian expansion

    Sidney, Neb. -- Cabela’s Inc. will open a 50,000-sq.-ft. store in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Upon opening, it will become the first Cabela’s location in Nova Scotia and second in Atlantic Canada, joining the Moncton, New Brunswick store opened in May.

    The retailer expects construction on the store to begin in 2016, and anticipates a 2017 opening. It will be located in the Dartmouth Crossing development near the intersection of Lakeview Drive and Wright Avenue. North American Development is the developer.
     

  • PetSmart CFO joins board of Crocs Inc.

    The CFO of PetSmart Inc. has been appointed to the board of directors for Crocs Inc.

    Carrie Teffner, the executive vice president and chief financial officer for PetSmart Inc., joined the board June 9.

    Crocs also announced that current director Peter Jacobi is voluntarily retiring from his position.

  • Former Dollar General executive returns as store operations VP

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. - Jeff Owen will rejoin Dollar General Corp. as executive VP of store operations effective June 15. Owen previously spent more than 20 years with Dollar General, where his most recent role was senior VP of store operations.

    Dollar General also announced that Greg Sparks, executive VP of store operations, has departed effective June 9, 2015.

    Things are looking up for yogawear retailer Lululemon Athletica Inc., which reported a large increase in revenue from online sales in the first quarter.

  • Burlington boosts profit; will open 25 stores

    Burlington, N.J. – Aided by reductions in areas such as interest expense, debt extinguishment and stock option modification, Burlington Stores Inc. more than doubled its net income to $25.69 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2015 from $11.77 million the same period a year earlier. The company plans to open 25 stores during fiscal 2015.
