  • Authentic Brands Group completes purchase of Frederick’s of Hollywood

    New York — Authentic Brands Group LLC (ABG) , whose brands include Jones New York and Juicy Couture, has closed on its purchase of Frederick's of Hollywood Group for an undisclosed sum. Previous reports indicated the acquisition agreement, announced in April 2015, was for $22.5 million.

  • Gap out of touch with millennials?

    New York — Gap stores have failed to keep up with the fashion tastes of millennial shoppers, who have a much different fashion sense than the generation before them, according to the Washington Post. Read the full story here.

  • Shopko opening 15 stores in July, and another 15 in October

    Green Bay, Wisc. — Shopko continues to expand, with the opening of 15 Shopko Hometown stores across eight states this July.  The  new locations join 20 stores Shopko opened earlier this year and more than 15 additional stores the company plans to open in October.  
  • Dollar General names supply chain, merchandising executives

    Dollar General, which recently opened its 12,000 store, has named five executives to key leadership positions within its global supply chain functions and merchandising organizations.

    The following promotions are effective immediately:

    •   Mike Kindy has been promoted to senior VP, global supply chain with responsibility for transportation as well as inventory and demand management, demand planning and supply chain solutions. Kindy has been with Dollar General since 2007.

  • Growing Shopko to open 15 stores in July

    Shopko is continuing on its growth path with the opening of 15 new Shopko Hometown stores across eight states this July.

    The new locations join 20 stores Shopko already opened earlier this year and more than 15 additional stores the company plans to open in October.

  • Lumber Liquidators promotes marketing head, cuts merchandising chief

    Toano, Va. – The executive shakeup continues at Lumber Liquidators as the company integrates the leadership of its merchandising and marketing departments. Marco Q. Pescara, the company's chief marketing officer since 2006, has been promoted to serve as chief merchandising and marketing officer effective June 19.

    Pescara will lead the company's marketing and merchandising functions. The employment of William K. Schlegel, current chief merchandising officer, will be terminated effective June 19.

  • German grocer seeks a Lidl slice of Aldi's market

    U.S. consumers have more options for grocery shopping than ever before. But German discount grocer Lidl, aiming to emulate the U.S. success of the growing Aldi chain, says it will “create a unique experience for American consumers that will be unlike anything else in the market.”

  • Pep Boys names Hertz veteran as CEO

    Philadelphia — The Pep Boys: Manny, Moe & Jack named Hertz Corp. veteran Scott P. Sider, 54, as its new CEO, effective June 15. He most recently served as group president of Hertz Corporation’s largest division, Rent A Car Americas, with over 3,200 locations.

    The announcement comes more than eight months after Pep Boys CEO Michael Odell resigned on the heels of disappointing second quarter earnings.
