  • Two home furnishing rivals in legal battle over trade secrets

    Restoration Hardware has filed a lawsuit against Crate and Barrel, accusing the rival brand of stealing confidential information to gain a competitive edge.   Restoration Hardware claims Crate and Barrel implemented a similar strategy that features food and beverage services at certain gallery locations.   
  • JLL names new West Coast leasing VP

    Kristin Grove, most recently director of leasing for GGP, has joined JLL as VP of National Retail Leasing. Grove will be based in Los Angeles and oversee leasing efforts and merchandising strategy for retail space on the West Coast.  
  • Consumer confidence backs off 15-year high

    Consumer confidence slipped slightly in January after reaching a 15-year high in December, though outlook for the present overrode the outlook for the future.   The index now stands at 111.8 (less than an expected 113), down from 113.3 the previous month.  
  • CBRE execs are first to complete rigorous retail course at U. of Arizona

    Eighty retail real estate executives from CBRE recently gained the distinction of being the first class to graduate from a course designed to give field professionals a deeper knowledge of rapidly evolving retail business models and how they influence site selection.

    For the 28th consecutive year, Chain Store Age will recognize active shopping center owners, managers and acquirers for projects, contracts and transactions completed during last year.   The annual “Fastest-Growing” awards measure development, acquisition and third-party management activities for full-year 2016.   
  • Walmart takes direct aim at Amazon Prime’s free shipping

    Walmart just upped the ante in the home shipping war against its rival, Amazon.    The chain is ending its ShippingPass program, a fee-based, two-day delivery service, in favor of a free two-day shipping program. Shoppers can now order from more than two million items, and have merchandise shipped to their homes or stores without a membership fee.  
  • Luxury retailer tops Q2 estimates

    Despite a volatile global retail environment, Coach increased sales and profits for its fiscal second quarter.   The luxury handbag and accessories retailer reported revenue of $1.32 billion for the quarter ended December 31, 2016, up 4% from $1.27 billion last year. The retailer’s net income was $200 million, up from $170 million in 2015.
