  • GameStop wants to give power to employee scholars

    As retailers feel the pressure to raise wages for employees, GameStop is focusing on education by giving staffers an incentive to enter the classroom.

    GameStop is launching a new scholarship for its employees that would allow them or their children to go to college. The program is called “Power to the Scholars,” a reference to the “Power to the Players” slogan the company has popularized over the years.

  • Wal-Mart annual report points to sustainability progress

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Global responsibility and sustainability continue to be priorities for Wal-Mart Stores Inc.  The company filed its proxy statement ahead of its June 5 annual shareholders meeting, and also issued its annual report, and the 2015 Global Responsibility Report and Global Compliance Program Report.

    The Global Responsibility Report outlined social and environmental work over the past year.  Accomplishments, according to the company, include:  

  • Founder of TJX Cos. to retire from board

    The TJX Cos. Inc. announced Wednesday that Chairman Bernard Cammarata will retire following the company’s annual shareholder meeting scheduled for June 11.

  • Marshalls survey: Most women confident about achieving goals

    Framingham, Mass. -- American women are ambitious and confident when it comes to pursuing their goals, yet understand the hard work it takes to achieve them.

    In a new survey from Marshalls, 85% of American women ages 22 – 54 who have goals feel confident that they will achieve them in the next year, which is no easy feat with women juggling four different goals on average. Even as master multi-taskers women know when to ask for help, with 91% reporting to need a little boost and support to help create a path toward success.
     

  • The one report every Walmart supplier should read

    Suppliers to Walmart are always looking for ways to align themselves with the retailer and develop strategies that drive sales. Nothing could be more instructive on that front than 2015 version of a Global Responsibility Report, which reveals the company’s extensive social and environmental commitments and accomplishments.

    The eighth annual edition of the document was released this week in conjunction with other material related to the company June 5 shareholders meeting.

  • TJX chairman Cammarata to retire, CEO Meyrowitz will succeed him

    Framingham, Mass. – Bernard Cammarata, 75, founder and chairman of The TJX Companies Inc., will retire June 11, 2015 after nearly 40 years with the company. Carol Meyrowitz, 61, who has served as CEO of TJX since January 2007, been a board director since 2006 and joined the company in 1983, will succeed him as chairman.
