    In case you missed it, one of America’s biggest and most iconic brands was in the news recently for something other than the latest sales figures: Wal-Mart announced an ambitious plan to hire approximately 100,000 veterans over the next five years.

  • Survey: Majority of shoppers to spend up to $100 on Valentine's Day gifts

    Los Angeles -- Survey results released Thursday by PriceGrabber found that 62% of consumers plan to spend as much as $100 on gifts for Valentine’s Day, down from 68% in 2012. However, 36% plan to spend more than $100 compared with 28% last year.  

  • E-commerce now 10% of total retail sales

    Online sales returned to pre-recession growth levels in 2012, advancing 15% to a record $186.2 billion, according to a year end recap by online measurement firm comScore.

  • Grocery exec joins supply chain board

    Former Delhaize America CEO and Hannaford Bros. executive Ronald C. Hodge has joined the board of the Park City Group.

    Hodge most recently served as an advisor to Delhaize America following a stint as CEO from March 2011 to Octomber 2012. Prior to Delhaize, Hodge spent 31 years with Hannaford Bros. Co., during which time he held various executive roles, including the position of CEO from 2001 to 2011.

  • Comps moderate at TJX and Ross

    Same store sale decelerated for The TJX Companies and Ross Stores during January even though both companies increased their full year profits forecasts.

    TJX, operator of Marshalls and T.J. Maxx stores, said comps increased 3% during the period ended January 28. That figure was better than expected, but less than half the prior year gain of 7%. Sales for the five week period ended February 2 increased nearly 36% to $1.9 billion due to the inclusion of an additional week.

  • Credit card group takes swipe at NRF

    WASHINGTON — The National Retail Federation has been outspoken in its criticism of credit card fees and now a group called the Electronic Payments Coalition that represents credit unions,banks and payment card networks is firing back, claiming that the retail lobby is making false statements regarding checkout fees.

  • Tax reform and e-fairness top RILA’s D.C. agenda

    Arlington, Va. -- The passage of comprehensive tax reform and a more level playing field between online retailers and Main Street retailers for sales tax collection top the Retail Industry Leaders Association’s public policy priorities for 2013.

    According to RILA, the retail industry pays among the highest domestic effective tax rates at 36.4% more than 10 percentage points higher than the average for all other industries.
