  • Help Wanted: Walmart hiring 4.3 million

    Yes, you read that correctly. Walmart will need to hire an estimated 4.3 million people over the course of the next five years to keep pace with anticipated growth and turnover. No wonder the company is such a big supporter of an organization known as Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), which held its Global Partner Summit in Rogers, Ark. earlier this week.

  • Retail container traffic to be up slightly in December

    Washington, D.C. -- Import cargo volume at the nation’s major retail container ports should be up 0.3% in December compared with the same month last year as retailers head to the finish line of the holiday shopping season, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

  • Pharmacists ranked in top three in Gallup’s annual Honest and Ethics survey

    Alexandria, Va. – The results of Gallup’s annual Honesty and Ethics survey reveal that pharmacists have ranked in the top three for the ninth consecutive year. In this year’s survey, pharmacists ranked second to nurses and ahead of doctors, moving up one place from last year’s survey.  Among respondents, 73% rated the honesty and ethical standards of pharmacists as “very high” or “high.”

  • Sam's Club, Salvation Army help deserving families with fifth annual campaign

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam's Club announced that it is teaming up with The Salvation Army and Off the Field professional football players' wives association for the fifth annual Dream Drive for the Salvation Army. Twenty pre-selected families from the Salvation Army Adopt-A-Family program in 10 different cities will receive $1,000 worth of gifts, including food, clothes, personal items and toys from Sam's Club. As part of the Dream Drive campaign, Off the Field representatives will be shopping at their local Sam's Clubs on Dec. 8 to purchase items for these families.

  • NEW names conference co-chairs

    CHICAGO — Eva Kohn of Valassis Inc. and Subriana Pierce of Supervalu were named co-chairs of the Network of Executive Women CPG Retail Diversity Forum 2012 scheduled for March 6 to 8 in Dallas. The NEW Diversity Forum, formerly the Multicultural Workforce Conference, is the consumer products and retail industry’s leading diversity and inclusion event.

  • NRF: Online sales tax advantage is ‘stifling’ local stores

    Washington, D.C. -- The National Retail Federation urged the House Judiciary Committee to support legislation that would require Internet retailers to collect sales tax the same as local merchants, saying online sellers have a price advantage that is “stifling” Main Street stores’ ability to compete.
