Best Buy to close stores Thanksgiving, start Black Friday early
Best Buy Co. is giving store associates a holiday break and holiday shoppers a head start.
The consumer electronics giant will close its stores Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 28), although shopping will be available on its e-commerce site and app. In addition, starting Sunday, Nov. 3, Best Buy is extending its store hours, with specific hours varying by location.
Best Buy, which kicked off its holiday promotional season in late September with a member-exclusive sale specifically targeting participants in its My Best Buy Memberships loyalty program., is currently hosting a “Prep for the Holiday” event focusing on products that customers can use for hosting holiday events, such as appliances, TVs, and smart home devices.

Best Buy is also launching its Black Friday deals on Friday, Nov. 8, including new in-store and digital doorbusters on technology products every Friday from Nov. 8 – Dec. 20. Higher-tier members of the My Best Buy Memberships loyalty program will have early access to doorbuster deals every Thursday.
Other special holiday promotional offerings include:
- Black Friday Sale: Best Buy’s official Black Friday Sale kicks off Thursday, Nov. 21. Doorbusters that dropped earlier in the month will return, along with new doorbusters on Friday, Nov. 22 and Black Friday, Nov. 29.
- Cyber Monday Sale: The Cyber Monday Sale begins Sunday, Dec. 1, where shoppers can save up to 50% on select items.
- New store experiences: Dedicated in-store seasonal displays include XXL TVs, video games, and AI-enabled Microsoft Copilot+ PCs.
- Holiday gifting center: Best Buy is bringing back the Holiday Gifting Center on BestBuy.com, a single resource for gift ideas and curated gift lists.
- Best Buy Drops: Back for 2024, Best Buy Drops provides discounts on items such as product releases, limited runs, and launches, all in real time via the Best Buy app.
In addition, Best Buy is offering a dedicated holiday YouTube channel, a holiday price match guarantee which provides customers who make a purchase from Best Buy and see the price go lower during the holiday season receive a match from the retailer, and an extended holiday return and exchange policy that provides most gifts purchased between Nov. 1 through Dec. 31 an extended return period through Jan. 14, 2025.
