Amazon reportedly seeking $7B purchase of AI start-up Decart

Amazon is said to be considering buying an AI start-up.

Amazon is reportedly pursuing a major acquisition in the artificial intelligence space.

Amazon is negotiating an agreement with Israeli AI start-up Decart to purchase the company for about $7 billion, reported the Wall Street Journal. Anthropic, the developer of next-gen AI model Claude, recently walked away from purchasing Decart after a $6 billion deal collapsed, reported The Seattle Times. (Anthropic is also the recipient of $8 billion in Amazon funding.)

Founded in 2023 by three Israeli engineers based in Tel Aviv, Decart creates software designed to help developers switch among different types of AI chips and increase the output of hardware supporting AI operations. The company also provides AI tools for live video editing and instant generation of virtual interactive worlds, and in 2024 publicly released a game called Oasis which operates similarly to the popular interactive video game “Minecraft,” but lets players alter its virtual environment using real-time commands.

The Amazon Web Services hosted cloud subsidiary of Amazon reportedly provided Decart with early access to its Trainium3 next-gen AI chips. So far neither Amazon nor Decart has publicly commented on reports of a potential acquisition deal.

Amazon commits to leading-edge AI

Amazon has shown a willingness to enter investment and collaborative deals with generative AI and agentic AI companies, such as its partnership with Anthropic. In February, it substantially increased the scale of a multi-year, strategic partnership with OpenAI, developer of generative AI model ChatGPT, it signed in November 2025.

Under that agreement, Amazon has been providing infrastructure from AWS to run and scale OpenAI’s core AI workloads. Now the two companies are launching a broader multi-year strategic partnership intended to accelerate AI innovation around the world and expect to increase their existing $38 billion partnership by $100 billion over the next eight years.

In addition, in April Amazon entered a deal described in the media as “multi-billion-dollar” with Facebook parent Meta for Meta to deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton5 central processing unit (CPU) chips to power its agentic AI and other AI initiatives.

Other examples include a joint investment of more than $5 billion in a strategic partnership to build an “AI Zone” in Saudi Arabia between AWS and Humain, Saudi Arabia’s company dedicated to developing AI across the country and globally; as well as its 2024 licensing deal with Covariant, a Bay Area start-up that builds AI for advanced warehouse robotics systems.
