Amazon plans $15B investment in Indiana data centers
Amazon is significantly expanding its infrastructure to support artificial intelligence and cloud technologies in northern Indiana.
The online giant announced it expects to invest an estimated $15 billion in northern Indiana to build new data centers that will provide advanced cloud infrastructure and computing power to meet demand caused by the advancement of generative AI.
This new project follows the commitment of an estimated $11 billion Amazon made in 2024 to build new data centers in St. Joseph County, Indiana.

These planned investments are part of what Amazon says is a long-term commitment to the state, which includes $31.3 billion since 2010. The e-tailer’s projects in Indiana have included enabling four solar farms and a wind farm, and it says its investments have created 26,000 full- and part-time jobs there.
Amazon expects its new project to add 2.4 gigawatts of data center capacity in the region, as well as create more than 1,100 new jobs while supporting thousands of other jobs in the data center supply chain. New jobs will include data center engineers and network specialists, engineering operations managers, security specialists, and other technical roles.
In addition to these direct positions, the company expects its planned investment to support thousands of local electricians, construction workers, and fiber-optic technicians, and other jobs within the local area.
In total, the new project is expected add up to 3 gigawatts of new capacity, which goes beyond serving Amazon's needs of 2.4 gigawatts.
"Indiana has long been an important partner for Amazon, and today we are proud to reaffirm our commitment to long-term investment and growth, underscoring our dedication to fueling AI innovation while generating meaningful economic impact throughout the state," said David Zapolsky, Amazon chief global affairs and legal officer. "We're excited to help power the next wave of technological advancement while delivering tangible benefits that will enhance the lives of Indiana residents for years to come."
As part of the project, Amazon is partnering with Indiana utility Nipsco to pay fees to use existing power lines and cover the costs for any new power plants, power lines, or equipment needed to serve the data center project to its newly created subsidiary, Nipsco Generation LLC (GenCo).
Amazon has also recently committed to investing up to $50 billion to expand AI and supercomputing capabilities for U.S. government customers of its Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosted cloud subsidiary, as well as investing at least $3 billion in Warren County, Mississippi, to build a new data center to support artificial intelligence and cloud computing technologies.
In June 2025, Amazon announced it intends to invest at least $20 billion in Pennsylvania to expand its data center infrastructure in the state.
