X CEO Yaccarino departs company
The chief executive of social network X has stepped down.
Linda Yaccarino, who had been serving as CEO of X since it was still known as Twitter in May 2023, has ended her tenure with the company. In a post on her official X account dated July 9, 2025, Yaccarino announced her departure without providing a specific reason or indicating what her next professional role will be.
"I’m incredibly proud of the X team - the historic business turnaround we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable," Yaccarino said in the post.
She also thanked Elon Musk, who had been serving as interim CEO of Twitter since acquiring the social platform for $44 billion in October 2022 when he named Yaccarino to permanently take that post, for "entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App."
A few months after Yaccarino took over, Twitter rebranded as X, taking its first step toward becoming what Musk had termed an “everything app” – an app providing multiple functionalities such as social media, messaging and payments from a single platform.
Other significant developments that occurred during Yaccarino’s tenure included the announcement of a partnership with Visa to launch a solution called "X Money Account" that is planned to roll out later this year and is currently in beta testing (Visa operates the largest U.S. credit network).
The solution allows users to securely and instantly fund a digital wallet called X Wallet via the Visa Direct global payments network. Users can also connect X Wallet to their debit card to enable peer-to-peer payments and have the option to instantly transfer funds to their bank account. X Money Account is supported by a new service called X Money, which according to its own verified X account is “for all your money moves.”
In addition, Yaccarino oversaw the release of Grok, a next-generation AI platform intended to answer almost anything and also suggest what questions to ask, which just had its fourth version released.

In a brief post on X, Musk thanked Yaccarino for her contributions to the company.
Yaccarino, who holds a liberal arts degree from Penn State University, came to Twitter/X from NBCUniversal Media LLC, where her close to 12-year tenure most recently included a more than two-and-a-half year stint as chairman of global advertising and partnerships. She previously spent 20 years at Turner, climbing to executive VP/COO of advertising sales, marketing and acquisitions before leaving to join NBCUniversal Media in November 2011.
