Urban Outfitters accepting in-store returns from its Nuuly rental service

Urban Outfitters is accepting Nuuly returns in its stores.

Urban Outfitters is making it easier for users of its Nuuly clothing rental subscription platform to return products.

The specialty retailer, which initially launched Nuuly in 2019, is now letting Nuuly subscribers return their monthly totes to all U.S. Urban Outfitters stores. With this program, which Urban Outfitters says was uniquely developed to serve the needs of its target Gen Z customer base, shoppers can obtain perks like faster processing, instant updates, and surprise offers.

How it works

  • Customers can return Nuuly totes at all U.S. Urban Outfitters stores. Associates scan the 18-digit UPS tracking number at checkout.
  • Nuuly subscribers will get a return confirmation email within minutes, containing tracking info and a link to their account.
  • Upon drop-off, customers will receive standard emails such as "Return Confirmed," "Your Nuuly is Unlocked," "Unlock Early," "Your Pause is Confirmed," and "Your Subscription is Cancelled."
  • Shoppers who utilize the in-store drop off will receive 15% discount codes for Urban Outfitters in-store and online purchases each time they return their Nuuly rentals through Dec. 24, 2025. The codes are redeemable until Dec. 31, 2025. Five select stores will offer an exclusive Nuuly "Gift with Return" while supplies last.

"Our stores have always been more than just places to shop, they're spaces for discovery, connection, and convenience," said Urban Outfitters president Shea Jensen. "By bringing Nuuly returns into select UO locations, we're making it easier than ever for customers to manage their wardrobes and discover what's next. It's another step in blending our digital and in-store experiences to meet our community where they are."

For $98 per month, Nuuly subscribers can rent any six items from more than 500 brands, including Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Outfitters, as well as more than 22,000 curated styles from contemporary brands, designers, premium denim labels, and exclusive vintage pieces.

"We've been excited to see the enthusiasm behind Nuuly and are so pleased to bring this in-store program to life with Urban Outfitters to give our community more return options," said David Hayne, president of Nuuly. "We're always looking for fresh ways to engage our Gen Z consumers and streamline the shopping experience. This partnership is a strong example of what's possible when we come together. "

Founded in 1970 in a small space across from the University of Pennsylvania, Urban Outfitters now operates more than 200 stores across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, as well as a digital presence. Nuuly has more than 380,000 active subscribers.
