  • Office Depot selects HighJump platform for European trading

    Manchester, U.K. -- Office Depot has selected the Atlas Products network-based supplier collaboration platform for its European trading operations. The Atlas supplier enablement network, a subsidiary of HighJump Software, provides Office Depot with an electronic platform for collaboration and commerce with more than 4,000 suppliers of goods-for-resale products spanning eight countries and seven languages.   
  • Maurices plans 16 new stores in time for holidays

    Duluth, Minn. –- Maurices is ramping up its store openings in time for the holiday season with plans to open 16 new stores. These expansions will give the girls’ apparel retailer a total of 938 locations, advancing it toward its goal of having more than 1,300 stores in the United States and Canada.   
  • Costco to launch online China store with Alibaba

    Issaquah, Wash. -- Costco Wholesale Corp. will enter China for the first time through the opening of an online flagship store on Alibaba Group’s Tmall Global platform. Tmall Global allows overseas brands and retailers to establish presence on the Alibaba third-party e-commerce platform Tmall.com without the need for physical operations in China.  
  • Gap to outdo Walmart in holiday hires; plans Holiday Hiring Blitz events nationwide

    San Francisco -- Gap Inc. plans to hire more than 63,000 seasonal associates—more than Walmart—at its stores, call centers and distribution centers nationwide for the 2014 holiday season. (Walmart previously announced it was hiring 60,000 seasonal associates.)  
  • DirectBuy names new executive team

    Merrillville, Ind. -- DirectBuy, the membership-based buying organization that enables consumers to purchase from manufacturers and suppliers without retail markup, has named a new executive leadership team. This new team is led by new CEO Mike Bornhorst, who comes to DirectBuy after spending time in leadership positions with companies such as ADT and Culligan Water.   
  • Signet Jewelers CEO resigns; names COO Mark Light as new chief

    Hamilton, Bermuda –- In a surprise announcement, Signet Jewelers Ltd., the largest jewelry retailer in the U.S., U.K. and Canada, said that its president and COO, Mark Light,  will take over as CEO on Nov. 1. He will replace Signet’s current chief, Michael Barnes, who is resigning from his position and from Signet's board of directors to "pursue opportunities closer to his home in Dallas," effective Oct. 31.  
  • Quiksilver makes changes to senior leadership

    Huntington Beach, Calif. -- Quiksilver announced that Bob McKnight will retire as a senior executive of the company on Oct. 31, 2014. He will remain a director. The teen retailer also said CEO Andy Mooney has been elected chairman and Pierre Agnes has been promoted to president of Quiksilver, effective Nov. 1, 2014.
