Sur La Table will open four new stores by summer.
Sur La Table is moving back into expansion mode nearly three years after it closed a good number of its stores.
The upscale kitchenware retailer plans to open four new locations by summer, with stores at Bayshore, an open-air center in Glendale, Wis.; The Shops at Farmington Valley in Canton, Conn.; and The Westchester in White Plains, N.Y. It will also open a location at Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany.
The upcoming openings follow Sur La Table's return to the markets of Omaha, Neb., and Alexandria, Va., in 2022 with new store openings.
“By expanding our retail footprint strategically, we’ve targeted specific markets providing new and familiar communities with a retail destination that offers the 50 years of cooking expertise that the brand is known for,” said Jordan Voloshin, CEO of Sur La Table “We are enthusiastic about returning to locations where Sur La Table has previously operated in, as well as entering new markets and reaching new customers across the country.”
The brand, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, currently operates 55 stores in some 20 states nationwide. It plans to open additional stores in new regions across the nation throughout the year.
In August 2020, e-commerce investment firm CSC Generation and Marquee Brands LLC joined forces and purchased the company for nearly $89 million. The joint venture’s deal topped an opening bid by Fortress Investment Group, according to court documents.
The acquisition ended a tumultuous period for the retailer. The company filed for bankruptcy in July 2020, with plans close over 50 of its 121 stores. At the time, it appeared that the company was headed to liquidation.
Sur La Table is complementing its store openings with new brand experiences, both in-store and online. For example, the retailer is elevating its in-store experiences with cooking classes, in-store events and demonstrations. Meanwhile, last fall the retailer launched a new content center, Lid & Ladle by Sur La Table, that offers guided recipe videos, tips and other educational solutions, according to the company.
