  • American Eagle to expand store base into the Philippines

    Pittsburgh -- American Eagle Outfitters said Thursday it has struck a deal with Suyen Corp. that will see the AEO banner open throughout the Philippines.
     
    American Eagle signed a multiyear retail license agreement with Suyen, which operates more than 700 stores under various banners in the Philippines, along with 126 franchised stores in the country. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    The first stores in the country, which will consist of standalone and in-store shops, are slated to open spring 2013.
     

  • Kroger details progress on energy conservation and waste reduction

    Cincinnati -- The Kroger Co. has saved more than 2.34 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, which equals 1.47 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, in 2011, according to the chain’s sixth annual Sustainability Report.

  • Kohl’s expands electrical vehicle charging station program to 18 more stores

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl’s Department Stores will expand its electric vehicle charging station initiative with 36 new stations across 18 additional Kohl’s locations by the end of fall 2012.

  • Macy’s Herald Square renovation debuts Herald Square Café

    New York -- As part of its landmark, multi-year, $400 million dollar renovation of Macy’s Herald Square, the department store retailer debuts the Herald Square Café this week.

    Located on the second floor with the shoe department, the 1,434-sq.-ft., 45,-seat café will serve Starbucks coffees, chocolates and high-end champagnes.

  • Wal-Mart’s new Oregon store to have state’s largest green roof

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores said Friday that its new store in Portland, Ore., will feature the state’s largest green roof.

    According to a report by Oregon’s Daily Journal of Commerce, the 90,000-sq.-ft. store, which broke ground Friday in North Portland, will be topped by a 40,600-sq.-ft. green roof, surpassing by more than 10,000 sq. ft. the current largest green roof over the Ramona apartment complex in Portland.

  • LandMark develops two CVS/Pharmacy stores in California

    Woodland Hills, Calif. -- LandMark Retail Group said it has completed the development of two CVS/Pharmacy stores in California – in Bakersfield and Palmdale.

    The Bakersfield store will be located in the newly developed Grand Island Village Shopping Center, a 90,000-sq.-ft. neighborhood center home to Chevron, Republic Bank and other small tenants.

    The Palmdale store is located in a Vallarta-anchored neighborhood shopping center and offers a drive-thru pharmacy.

  • Nordstrom to open two full-line stores

    Seattle -- Nordstrom said Tuesday it will open two new full-line stores – one in Jacksonville, Fla., and the other in Woodlands, Texas.
     
    The Florida store will open at St. Johns Town Center, a Simon Property and Ben Carter-owned shopping center. The 124,000-sq.-ft. store will be two levels and is expected to open in fall 2014.

  • J.C. Penney Co. debuts three new brand shops

    Dallas  -- J.C. Penney Co.  has unveiled details of its three newest brand shops.
     
    The shop will debut September 1, in nearly 700 stores nationwide. , They feature dedicated in-store environments for Liz Claiborne, Izod, and  a new private-label line of fashion basics line called jcp.
