  • Dick’s Sporting Goods to open second Field & Stream location

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Good will open its second Field & Stream specialty store in November, in Crescent Springs, Ky. Earlier this week, Dick’s said it plans to grow Field & Stream to approximately 55 locations and $750 million in sales by the end of fiscal 2017.

    In addition to outdoor merchandise, the Field & Stream store will provide professional services for archery equipment, fishing gear, and firearms, among other goods.

  • Saks’ Chicago flagship to devote two floors to new in-store men’s format, The Fifth Man

    New York -- Saks Fifth Avenue in January 2014 will unveil its renovated men’s store in its Chicago flagship on Michigan Avenue. The renovation will encompass a total redesign of floors six and seven, creating an open environment that will be easily accessed by a new express elevator that will take passengers directly to the men’s floors.  

  • Englewood Construction completes Wild-West styled restaurant project

    Chicago -- Englewood Construction’s restaurant group has completed Williston Brewing Co., an upscale restaurant and lounge in booming Williston, N.D.
     
    “Williston Brewing Co. provides a much-needed dining and entertainment option for oil field workers and their families,” said William Di Santo, president of Lemont, Ill.-based Englewood Construction. “We’ve been fortunate to take part in the area’s commercial construction boom sparked by North Dakota’s oil rush.”

  • Rose Paving Co. CEO honored at the Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards

    Bridgeview, Ill. -- Alan Rose, CEO and majority owner of Rose Paving Co., a leader in national parking lot management, has been honored at the 2013 Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards (EEAs), sponsored by The Daily Herald Business Ledger, with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Twenty business owners in total were recognized at a ceremony on Sept. 11 hosted by The Daily Herald Business Ledger. The EEAs were presented for the 14th consecutive year, and approximately 160 people were in attendance at the event.

  • RadioShack opens two additional new concept stores in Manhattan

    New York -- RadioShack unveiled a store remodeled to its new high-touch format, in Manhattan, with an additional Big Apple location set to open on Oct. 12. The format incorporates interactive areas designed to help shoppers improve their technology profile. The chain premiered the design in July, on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

    Features of RadioShack’s updated design include:

    Newly configured displays highlighting in-demand brands like Apple, HTC and Samsung, as well as mobile carriers such as AT&T, Sprint and Verizon;

  • President George W. Bush to give opening keynote at SPECS

    New York -- Chain Store Age will celebrate its 50th annual SPECS show with a very special opening keynote: A Conversation with President George W. Bush.

    The 43rd president of the United States will give the keynote at SPECS, the industry’s premier store development and facilities event, on Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Gaylord Texan Hotel, Grapevine, Texas. The full conference will run March 9 – 12, 2014.
