Staples Inc. is partnering with a global payments network to provide flexible, interest-free payment options on its e-commerce site.

The office supplies giant is teaming up with Klarna to make its "Pay in 4" buy now, pay later option and financing service available to online shoppers. As a result, customers on the Staples e-commerce site can choose to pay now, split their purchase into four interest-free payments, or extend payments further for larger purchases.

"We’re excited to provide this added convenience and value to our customers, making their shopping experience more seamless than ever," said Mike Shady, chief digital officer, Staples Inc. "This partnership with Klarna reflects our commitment to evolving with our customers’ needs by making their shopping experience even more accessible and allowing them to easily manage purchases without the pressure of upfront costs."

In other efforts to enhance the value and shopping options it offers customers, earlier this year Staples launched a brand new loyalty program, Easy Rewards, which replaced its previous longstanding Rewards loyalty offering.

The free to join Easy Rewards program enables members to earn and redeem points in stores, online at Staples.com and in the Staples mobile app. Specific benefits of Easy Rewards include points for qualifying purchases and services, exclusive access to special savings events and member-only offers, and an online/mobile dashboard for streamlined tracking of points and purchases.

"We’re thrilled to team up with Staples to make it easier for shoppers to get what they need for work and home," said Erin Jaeger, head of North America at Klarna. "Our goal is for Klarna to be available on every checkout, for everything, everywhere. Our users’ top Klarna wishlist items are electronic devices, by joining forces with Staples, we’re able to offer our customers an easier way to spread the cost of vital office supplies fairly and transparently."

Headquartered in Framingham, Mass., Staples Inc. operates nearly 1,000 stores, with a Staples retail store located within 10 miles of more than half of the U.S. population. Staples Business Advantage is one of the largest distributors of cleaning and janitorial supplies in the U.S. The company operates in North America through e-commerce and direct sales.
