  • American Eagle Outfitters to open stores in Japan

    Pittsburgh - American Eagle Outfitters on Tuesday detailed its plans to open Eagle Outfitters and Aerie by American Eagle stores in Japan, in partnership with Sumikin Bussan Corporation. The first store is slated to open in Tokyo’s legendary Harajuku shopping district in the first half of 2012.

    AEO has signed an exclusive franchise agreement with Sumikin, a leading marketer, importer and exporter with extensive experience in the fashion industry.

  • Disney prototype opens at Cherry Hill Mall

    Cherry Hill, N.J. -- Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT) said Friday that The Disney Store has opened at its Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hill, N.J., just one of 20 prototypical Disney stores to open worldwide this year.

    The 4,744-sq.-ft. retailer, complete with a glittering “pixie dust” trail, magical trees and a customized skyline, is located near Macy’s Court.

  • McDonald's to double China restaurant count by 2013

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- McDonald's Corp. said Wednesday it plans to double the number of its restaurants in China to 2,000 units by 2013.

    According to a report by Reuters, the move is part of the hamburger chain’s strategy to speed up expansion in the fastest-growing major economy.

    McDonald’s opened its first outlet in Shenzhen 20 years ago, and is now facing fierce competition from Pizza Hut and KFC parent Yum Brands, which has about 3,700 outlets in China.

  • Barbour to open second Manhattan store

    New York City -- Robert K. Futterman & Associates said it has arranged a 1,993-sq.-ft. retail lease for Barbour on the ground floor at 123 Wooster St. (also known as 130 Prince St.), located in New York City’s SoHo area.

    Barbour has opened in the space temporarily for the holiday shopping season, and is scheduled to undergo renovations and reopen in spring 2011. This will serve as the second permanent New York store for the brand.

  • Marshalls to debut in Canada

    Toronto -- A report Thursday by the Toronto Star said that Marshalls will open its first Canadian stores in 2011. Four new stores are currently slated to open next year, according to RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust, which is handling the market entry for Marshalls.

    The first three Marshalls are set to open next spring, according to RioCan president and CEO Ed Sonshine. A fourth store, to be housed in a 50,000-sq.-ft. former nightclub, will not open until later in 2011.

  • REI to open in Dublin, Calif.

    Seattle -- REI on Thursday announced plans to open a new store in Dublin, Calif., at Amador Plaza in the fall of 2011.

    The one-story, nearly 24,000-sq.-ft. store will feature a bike shop and a seasonal gear rental department for customers to test out new outdoor activities.

  • Prada opens first Florida outlet store

    Sunrise, Fla. -- Prada has opened its Florida inaugural outlet store at Sawgrass Mills, located in Sunrise, Fla., and billed as the largest outlet, value retail and entertainment destination in the United States with more than 350 stores.

    Prada joins other luxury retailers Barneys New York Outlet; Burberry Factory Outlet; Canali; David Yurman; Hugo Boss Factory Store; Judith Ripka; Malo; Ralph Lauren; Salvatore Ferragamo Co. Store; St. John Co. Store; Tag Heuer; Tommy Bahama’s Outlet; Valentino; Vilebrequin and more.

  • WD Partners has contract to develop high-performance Home Depot store

    Columbus, Ohio -- WD Partners has signed a multi-year contract with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) to develop a high-performance Home Depot store in California through the Department of Energy’s Commercial Building Partnership (CBP). CBP projects put cutting-edge building techniques and technologies on the fast-track to wide-spread commercial use.
