  • Storrs Center breaks ground

    Mansfield, Conn. -- Westport, Conn.-based Charter Realty & Development Corp. said that ground was broken on Storrs Center, a new mixed-use town center to be located adjacent to the University of Connecticut in Mansfield.

    At completion, the project will include approximately 200,000 sq. ft. of retail space, 700 residential units, and significant open space.

  • Big Lots to open at Reisterstown Road Plaza

    Baltimore -- Oak Brook, Ill.-based Inland Western Retail Real Estate Trust announced that Reisterstown Plaza Associates LLC, one of its wholly owned subsidiaries, has signed a lease with Big Lots to occupy a 35,000-sq.-ft. location at Reisterstown Road Plaza in Baltimore.

    The Big Lots is slated to open this fall and brings the center to more than 92% leased.
     

  • Simon to expand four Premium Outlet centers

    Indianapolis -- Simon Property Group announced Tuesday that its Premium Outlets division will expand four of its most productive Premium Outlet properties located in California, Florida, Illinois and Washington. 

    Construction on these expansions is scheduled to begin in 2012, and total 450,000 sq. ft. of added space.

  • J.C. Penney, Nordstrom Rack to join Willow Grove Park lineup

    Philadelphia -- Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust announced that J.C. Penney, Nordstrom Rack, Bravo Cucina Italiana and Forever 21 will join The Cheesecake Factory in 190,000 sq. ft. of anchor space formerly occupied by Strawbridge’s at Willow Grove Park in suburban Philadelphia.

    The reconfiguration of the former Strawbridge’s store sets the stage for continuing the fashion-oriented merchandising strategy that differentiates the mall and appeals to a wide range of shopping and dining tastes.

  • Anthropologie to open in Old Town property

    Alexandria, Va. -- Douglas Development announced that Anthropologie has signed a lease for 10,500 sq. ft. in the newly acquired Douglas Development property at 610-12 King Street in Old Town, Alexandria, Va.

    Anthropologie will move into the former Hallmark store by the end of this year.

  • Ross Stores to enter Chicago area with 12 locations

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Ross Stores said Tuesday that it will simultaneously open 12 stores on Oct. 8, all located in the greater Chicago area.

    The new Ross Dress for Less stores will open simultaneously in Algonquin, Arlington Heights, Bloomingdale, Crystal Lake, Matteson, Naperville, Niles, Orland Park, Rockford, Schaumburg, Skokie and South Elgin.

    "We are excited to be entering the Chicago area, which will significantly expand our national footprint," said Michael Balmuth, vice chairman and CEO, Ross Stores.

  • Atco acquires Austin shopping center

    New York City -- Manhattan-based Atco Properties & Management said it has purchased Crossroads Center, a 99,000-sq.-ft. neighborhood shopping center in Austin, for $14.25 million.

    The center is currently 70% leased to a mix of national tenants such as Bennihana, Chili’s, West Marine, Cycle Gear, as well as locals Trudy’s, Plucker’s and Big Daddy’s Burgers. 

  • Gordmans opens at Westridge Court

    Naperville, Ill. -- Centro Properties Group US announced that Gordmans opened a 50,000-sq.-ft. store at Westridge Court, located in Naperville, Ill.
     
    The new discount store opened on July 29, joining recently opened retailers Savers thrift store (38,490 sq. ft.) and Dots (4,466 sq. ft.).

    Westridge Court is owned by New York City-based Centro.
