Visits to Best Buy increased nationwide in the second quarter of this year, bucking a four-year trend.

That’s according to new data from retail data firm Placer.ai, which found that visits to the electronics retailer rose 2.2% year over year in the period. While visits have regularly improved since the start of 2024, the second quarter is the first time overall traffic growth at Best Buy has been positive since at least 2022.

Within the quarter, only June saw decreases in overall (-1.2%) and same-store (-1.5%) visits year over year. April and May saw the largest increases in visits compared to the same months in 2025, while growth in July was slightly more muted.

Placer.ai credits the improvement with the retailer’s investments in elevating the brick-and-mortar experience, including its Ikea shop-in-shops and in-store Meta Labs.

Best Buy’s visits grew in 43 states in the second quarter, including every state with 20 or more locations. Visits fell in just a handful of states, the data found, and the only states with more than a 1.2% drop – Wyoming (-12.9%), Vermont (-4.9%) and Montana (-3.2%) – have just six locations between them. By contrast, Placer.ai noted that California, Texas and Florida – Best Buy’s three largest state markets – all grew within a point of the national figure.

“Best Buy enters the second half of its 60th year with visits growing and the high-volume holiday season on the horizon,” said Ephraim Fruchter, insights content writer at Placer.ai. “One swallow does not make a spring – and time will tell if the turnaround can sustain its momentum. But for now at least, the chain is reaching more shoppers and giving them more reasons to stop by.”

Based in Minneapolis, Best Buy operates more than 1,000 retail stores in North America.
