Will Ferrell is helping PayPal with its fall marketing campaign.

A comedic legend and former "SNL" star is featured prominently in PayPal’s biggest U.S. ad campaign ever.

The promotion, which debuts nationally on Monday, Sept. 9 during the first football game of the year televised on Monday evening, stars film and TV comedy veteran Will Ferrell and a reimagined version of the 1987 Fleetwood Mac single "Everywhere.”

The ad will continue airing across various networks through the remainder of 2024. In the ad, Ferrell discovers he can pay with the PayPal debit Mastercard in stores and earn rewards. Viewers can see Ferrell shop at a supermarket, pay for streetwear at a boutique, charge an electric vehicle, and more, all while paying and earning rewards with PayPal and singing his take on Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere."

"Getting cash back hasn't been this easy since my boys were little, and I'd take extra Monopoly money while they weren't looking," said Will Ferrell. "It's been a delight to team up with PayPal and help customers earn cash back everywhere. There's never been a better time to sing about shopping and earning cash back everywhere."

In addition to the ad, PayPal will introduce a new visual look and an omnichannel marketing campaign across out-of-home, digital media, streaming and radio, podcast reads, influencers and a social media takeover. The campaign highlights PayPal's customer benefits, including a new 5% cash back rewards program when paying with the PayPal debit Mastercard.

"Starring Will Ferrell and powered by the music of Fleetwood Mac, our new campaign drives home the idea that PayPal is truly everywhere and more rewarding than ever," said Geoff Seeley, chief marketing officer at PayPal. "This points to the exciting direction we're heading in as we continue to evolve PayPal into an easy, safe, and rewarding way to shop everywhere."

"Saturday Night Live" stars feature in retail marketing campaigns

"SNL" has long served as a springboard for comedians to launch successful careers in film, TV and standup. But more recently, the venerable late-night sketch show has also been producing talent for retail ad campaigns.

For example, actress and "SNL" alumni Kristen Wiig has been reprising her classic Target Lady character in a major advertising push from Target to promote the launch of its revamped Target Circle loyalty program.

In 2022, comedian and former "SNL" cast member Melissa Villaseñor appeared in JCPenney advertising as the character Penny James. And "Saturday Night Live" and "Shrill" actress and comedian Aidy Bryant was the face of Old Navy’s Bodequality size-inclusive marketing campaign.
