Hy-Vee Inc. is partnering with a leading digital commerce provider to expand how customers can pay for online pickup and delivery.

The regional Midwest grocery/convenience chain is entering a new collaboration with PayPal that aims to enhance the shopping experience for select Hy-Vee online customers. Starting Monday, July 8, 2024,  PayPal and Venmo payment options are available to Hy-Vee customers using its Aisles Online platform for digital grocery pickup and delivery orders.

The introduction of these new digital payment methods follows the October 2023 deployment of Takeoff Technologies micro-fulfillment technology, which uses automated robots to retrieve grocery items from a compact in-store storage center for streamlined picking, in select metro Hy-Vee stores to support Aisles Online.

As a result, Hy-Vee intends to make the Aisles Online order picking process more efficient for employees shopping digital pickup and delivery orders from Aisles Online customers. While Hy-Vee customers do not see any changes to the way their orders are handled, the grocer hopes that its new micro-fulfillment platform will help meet its goal to offer more time slots and availability for customers utilizing the Aisles Online service.

"Shopping online for groceries, through services such as Hy-Vee’s Aisles Online platform, has dramatically increased over the last five years," said Kurt Campisano, senior VP, global markets, PayPal. "We are thrilled to innovate with partners like Hy-Vee to help improve customers’ shopping experience by providing trusted payment methods, such as PayPal and Venmo, to their consumers."
