Papa John’s meets digital demand surge with Google Cloud

One of the world’s largest pizza chains is migrating its data centers to the Google Cloud platform.

Papa John’s International is expanding upon an existing partnership with Google Cloud. The new agreement is part of a multi-phase strategy for Papa John’s to optimize application engineering, business operations, and customer experiences.

Specifically, Papa John’s seeks to help meet a surge in demand for online ordering and delivery, obtain real-time data insights, and provide a foundation for ongoing innovations and improvements to the customer experience. The retailer selected Google Cloud for its expertise in supporting enterprise migrations of on-premises workloads to the cloud.

Papa John's currently leverages several Google Cloud technologies, including Cloud SQL, Bigtable and BigQuery, as well as Cloud Functions, Firestore, and Kubernetes Engine. The company utilizes these solutions to support customer touchpoints including its loyalty program, multi-channel marketing platform, e-commerce, in-store, and mobile apps.

Papa John's has also moved its mapping system onto the Google Maps platform to connect geo-spatial data with enterprise and customer data. This supports its effort to provide customers with relevant and timely information on their local restaurants and delivery orders through the Papa Track tool, which allows them to keep digital tabs on their orders.

"Google Cloud continues to be a strategic and trusted partner in supporting our best-in-class digital platforms, particularly as we've experienced tremendous growth in consumer demand over the past year," said Justin Falciola, CTO, Papa John's International. "As one of the largest pizza delivery brands in the world, innovative technology is an essential component of our business model, allowing us to create great customer experiences and increase efficiencies throughout our restaurant operations. Migrating and transforming our infrastructure capabilities to Google Cloud will increase our speed to value for Papa John's digital, restaurant, and corporate solutions, ultimately delivering the best experience for our customers and our associates."

Papa John’s operates over 5,000 franchised and company-owned stores in all 50 U.S. states, as well as in 44 countries and territories.
