  • H&M makes EPA green power lists

    New York - H&M is number 32 on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) National Top 100 list of the largest green power users. H&M is using nearly 172 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 100% of the organization's electricity use.

  • NRF, RILA says NLRB erred in micro-union decision

    Washington, D.C. – The National Retail Federation (NRF) and Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) have filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the U.S. Court of Appeals saying the National Labor Relations Board’s decision to recognize a “micro-union” of workers in a single department at a Macy’s store in Massachusetts was incorrect. According to the trade organizations, allowing workers in a single department instead of the whole store to organize violates longstanding precedents on union organizing.

  • Amazon gets down to business with new marketplace

    Seattle – Amazon.com is launching yet another new marketplace. Amazon Business provides access to hundreds of millions of products, as well as business-only selection and pricing.

    Amazon Business customers will also receive free two-day shipping on tens of millions of eligible items, multi-user business accounts, custom spending approval workflows, integration with third-party procurement solutions, automated tracking of tax exemptions, dedicated customer support, order tracking, and corporate credit options.

  • Regional VP named at Weis Markets

    Sunbury, Pa. — Weis Markets has promoted Brent Mertes to regional VP where he will oversee the day-to-day operations of 51 stores located in South Central Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia.

    He will report to David Gose, senior VP, operations.

  • Dell: POS, encrypted malware attacks surge in 2014

    Round Rock, Texas – Retailers experienced substantial increases in POS malware attacks and also an increase in malware traffic contained within encrypted Web protocols. According to the Dell Annual Threat Report, which leverages research from Dell’s Global Response Intelligence Defense (GRID) network and telemetry data from Dell SonicWall network traffic, the Dell SonicWall Threat Research Team created 13 POS malware signatures in 2014.

  • Two Aeropostale board members will not return

    New York – During World War II, Gen. Douglas MacArthur famously said, “I shall return.” Two board members of Aeropostale Inc. are taking the opposite approach.

    Robert B. Chavez has advised Aeropostale that he will not seek re-election to its board of directors in 2015 due to his responsibilities and time commitments as president and CEO of Hermes of Paris Inc. Chavez will continue to serve until the 2015 annual meeting.
