  • 100th annual NRF Convention Opens in New York City

    The National Retail Federation’s Annual Convention & Expo kicked off  at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Sunday, Jan. 9, with a lineup of power speakers and plenty of buzz. It is the 100th anniversary of  annual event, which attracts retailers from around the world.

    This year, the four-day NRF show featured more than 600 exhibiting companies, new retail technology pavilions, and presentations from a stellar line-up of top-tier retailers. Total attendance was estimated at more than 18,500, with representatives from 70 countries.

  • Correction: sales did not exceed expectations

    It seemed like everything was going Target’s way after the company reported a 5.5% same-store sales increase during November, but then the revelation came last week of a 0.9% December comp increase and the wind came out of the company’s sales.

  • Zappos.com Tops in Customer Service

    Zappos.com took top honors in the sixth annual NRF Foundation/American Express Customers' Choice Survey, whose results were released at the National Retail Federation's Annual Convention and Expo in New York City. The survey, conducted by BIGresearch, is designed to gauge consumer attitudes toward retailers' customer service and provide a list of the retailer that offer the best customer service (as judged by consumers).

  • J.C. Penney names CFO

    Dallas -- J. C. Penney Co. has named Michael Dastugue as executive VP and CFO. He served most recently as senior VP finance, and was responsible for directing the financial strategies of all J.C. Penney business units.

    Dastugue succeeds Robert Cavanaugh, who will serve as an adviser to chairman and CEO Myron Ullman until his retirement in January 2012.
     

  • Roller Furniture selects SAF AG to automate ordering

    Dallas -- SAF AG said Monday that Roller, a German furniture discounter, will utilize SAF RetailSuite Store software to create automatic orders to optimize the replenishment process and regain valuable time for customer service.

    The company signed a license agreement and will use the solution across its 100 stores in Europe.

  • Giant Eagle selects Galleria for behavioral cluster planning

    Chicago -- Galleria announced that Giant Eagle has signed an agreement to deploy its Behavioral Cluster Planning solution, a behavioral-based clustering solution that provides consumer insight and analysis.

  • Newell Rubbermaid CEO to retire

    ATLANTA — Newell Rubbermaid, whose portfolio includes the hair accessories brand Goody, has announced that its president and CEO, Mark Ketchum, will retire later this year.

    An executive recruiting firm has been retained to conduct an outside search for Ketchum's replacement and also assist with the assessment of internal candidates, the company stated. To help ensure a smooth and transition, Ketchum plans to remain on the company¹s board through the spring of 2012.
