    SAN FRANCISCO— Williams-Sonoma announced that it will offer international shipping for its Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, West Elm and Williams-Sonoma brands. The company already offers international shipping for its PBteen brand through a partnership with FiftyOne Global E-commerce.

A variety of special events will be held at stores near the track beginning on Wednesday, June 15.

    “The economic model of Outlet is the highest return on capital and is where customers gravitate," Gap CEO Glenn Murphy said at an investment conference in New York City, where he revealed the company will close 200 U.S. Gap stores and expand its outlet base.

    But don’t expect the stores to be filled with last year’s castoffs.

    "I don't want them bringing stripes in the stores if stripes are last year's idea,” Murphy said.

  • REI makes Indiana debut

    SEATTLE — Recreational Equipment Inc. announced that it will open its first Indiana store in Indianapolis next spring.

    According to the company, the one-story, approximately 23,800 sq.-ft. store will offer products from the top brands of outdoor gear and apparel for camping, climbing, cycling, fitness, hiking, paddling, snow sports and travel. The Indianapolis store will also house a bike shop for quick assemblies and repairs, and a seasonal gear rental department for customers looking to test new activities, REI reported. 

  • Fortune Brands names SVP, CFO home and security unit

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Fortune Brands announced that it has named E. Lee Wyatt as SVP and CFO of its home and security unit.

    Wyatt was most recently EVP and CFOat HanesBrands. Prior to joining HanesBrands in advance of its 2006 spin-off, Wyatt served as a VP of Sara Lee and as CFO of Sara Lee branded apparel from 2005 to 2006. His previous executive leadership positions include serving as EVP, CFO and treasurer of Sonic Automotive and as VP administration and CFO of Sealy Corporation.

  • Fewer ads, but more pages per promotion

    In keeping with its renewed focus on EDLP, the average number of promotional pieces per market decreased to two in May compared with 2.8 the prior year, but the average number of pages increased to 40 compared with 30, according to the Chicago-based firm Market Track.
