  • Macy’s Q3 profit up 4.3%, beats estimates; to stop reporting monthly sales

    Cincinnati – Macy’s on Wednesday reported a better-than-expected 4.3% increase in third-quarter net income, helped by sales gains, and slightly raised its full-year profit outlook.  

    Macy’s also announced that it will discontinue reporting monthly sales, beginning in fiscal 2013. Sales will continue to be reported quarterly, along with earnings and cash flow.

  • ComScore: Online retail spending up 15% to $41.9 billion in Q3

    Reston, Va. -- Online retail spending in the United States reached $41.9 billion in the third quarter, up 15% versus year ago, according to comScore. This represents the twelfth consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and eighth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth.

    CINCINNATI — Macy’s Inc. is well positioned for strong holiday season as it continue to report quarterly sales and earnings growth.

  • Orvis selects MID Retail for merchandise allocation

    Indianapolis -- MID Retail Inc. said Tuesday that Orvis Co. has selected its Advanced Allocation software to manage the flow of merchandise to Orvis retail stores.

    “MID Retail’s Advanced Allocation software will help keep us ‘in-stock’ on the items our customers want,” said Julie Cheney, director of planning and allocation for Orvis. “The MID solution enables us to accurately control our inventory position while improving customer satisfaction.”

  • Report: Amazon packages for pick-up at Staples

    New York -- According to a Monday report by Reuters, Staples will install Amazon lockers inside its U.S. stores, providing consumers an alternative location to receive packages from the online retailer.

    According to the report, customers are sent an email code with a pickup code for opening the locker. Shoppers then have three days to retrieve the package.

     

  • P&G to provide showers, personal care kits and portable power to those impacted by Hurricane Sandy

    UNION BEACH, N.J. — In partnership with the American Red Cross, beginning Nov. 6, the P&G Mobile Relief Center will be stationed in Union Beach, N.J., to provide showers, personal care kits, household products — including Bounty, Charmin, Tide and Dawn — and baby products, including Pampers diapers and wipes, to victims of Hurricane Sandy, Procter & Gamble announced Monday. This service will be free to all victims, responders and their families.
