    Zillow has launched an iPad app and a Web site focused on the home improvement marketplace to provide inspiration, price transparency and lead generation for contractors.

  • Kroger promotes perishables VP to head of Central division

    CINCINNATI — Kroger has promoted Jeff Burt, formerly group VP perishables, merchandising and procurement, to president of the company's Central division. Kroger's Central Division operates 136 food stores primarily in Indiana and Illinois.

    Mr. Burt, 50, has been group vice president of perishables merchandising and procurement since 2010. He succeeds Bob Moeder, who recently announced his plans to retire this spring.

  • CVS Q4 profit up 6%; acquires Brazilian-based chain

    New York -- CVS Caremark Corp. bought Drogaria Onofre, a 44-store drug store based in San Paulo, Brazil, last week, Reuters reported. It marks the first time CVS has expanded outside the United States.
     
    "We view Brazil as an attractive market given that healthcare and pharmacy are expected to grow double digits for the next decade," CVS CEO Larry Merlo told Reuters. "It's still a highly-fragmented market, so we see nice opportunity to grow the business over time."

  • NPD: Consumers typically put off Valentine’s Day to last week

    Chicago -- Seventy-eight percent of those who celebrate Valentine’s Day plan to shop a week or less before the actual day, and still many wait until Feb. 13 or Feb. 14 to purchase, finds recent by The NPD Group.

    Women do not begin their Valentine’s Day shopping much earlier than men; one-in-three female buyers (32%) wraps up her shopping Feb. 13-14, and 47% of men made their final Valentine’s Day purchase on Feb. 13 or 14, according to NPD’s SnackTrack Holidays Valentine’s Day Profile.

  • Asia-Pacific to overtake North America as e-commerce leader

    Business-to-consumer e-commerce sales in 2012 grew 21.1% to top $1 trillion for the first time, according to new global estimates by research firm, eMarketer. 

    The firm predicts that 2013 will be even better, with e-commerce sales up 18.3% to $1.298 trillion worldwide, on the strength of the Asia-Pacific market. 

  • Report: J.C. Penney files lawsuit to block bondholders from declaring default

    New York -- J.C. Penney Co. filed a lawsuit on Monday asking a Delaware judge to declare that it is not in a default of its bond agreements, protecting nearly $3 billion of debt from being due in the coming months, Reuters reported.

    According to the report, J.C. Penney received a letter earlier on Monday from the Brown Rudnick law firm that said J.C. Penney had breached a covenant of a bond indenture agreement by granting a lien on its inventory. J.C. Penney filed the lawsuit after receiving the letter.
