  • Restoration Hardware swings to loss in Q4, but edges forecasts

    Corte Madera, Calif. -- Restoration Hardware Holdings Inc. reported Friday a loss of $28.4 million for the quarter ended Feb. 2, compared with a profit of $24 million in the year-ago period. Results, impacted by costs associated with the company’s November 2012 IPO, edged analysts’ expectations.

    Revenue surged 30% to $398.1 million from $305.2 million last year, beating Wall Street’s forecast of $390.5 million. Same-store sales advanced a hefty 26%.

  • HTC smartphone hits RadioShack shelves

    FORT WORTH, Texas — RadioShack has stocked its shelves at locations nationwide with HTC's most recent flagship smartphone, the HTC One.

    To celebrate the launch, RadioShack will give a $50 Google Play credit to anyone who buys the smartphone at one of their participating locations by June 1. Consumers can also take advantage of the company's Trade & Save Program, which allows them to trade-in their old phones for as much as $300 toward the new phone and accessories, depending on the phone model. 

  • Kimberly-Clark posts record profits in Q1

    DALLAS — First quarter 2013 net sales at Kimberly-Clark Corporation rose by a little more than 1% to $5.3 billion compared to the same period last year. The company posted record profits, up 12% to $783 million from $700 million in the same quarter last year.

  • American Girl, Monster High drive Mattel Q1 results

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Key Mattel brands drove Mattel sales for the first quarter of 2013. 

    Mattel's net sales for the quarter were $996 million, up 7% compared to $928 million last year, and net income increased dramatically to $38.5 million, or $0.11 per share, compared to last year's first quarter net income of $7.8 million, or $0.02 per share.

  • March retail sales in U.K. drop more than forecast

    London -- A Thursday report by Bloomberg said that retail sales in the U.K. fell a more-than-expected 0.8% (excluding fuel) in March compared to February, impacted by unseasonably cold weather and a still-sluggish economy.

  • RadioShack expands senior management team

    FORT WORTH — RadioShack has named Jennifer Warren as its new SVP and CMO, and Michael DeFazio as its new SVP of store concepts. 

  • Sherwin-Williams Q1 profit up; 70- to 80 stores on tap for 2013

    New York -- Sherwin-Williams Co. reported a sales increase of 1.4% in the first quarter ended March 31, thanks to higher volume in the Paint Stores Group. The company expects to open 70 to 80 paint stores in 2013.
    Net income increased 16% to $116.2 million.

    The company's consolidated net sales increased 1.4% to $2.17 billion. The Paint Stores Group saw sales increase 4.0% to $1.17 billion in the quarter. The company pointed to higher architectural paint sales volume across all end-market segments. Comp-store sales for paint stores increased 3.2%.
