  • Keurig Store to open in time for holiday season

    Green Mountain Coffee Roasters plans to open its first Keurig Store this November in the Burlington Mall in Burlington, Mass.

    Keurig Store shoppers will be able to test Keurig brewers and beverages from Keurig K-Cup, Keurig Vue and Keurig Rivo systems. In addition to providing the full line of Keurig brewers, the Keurig Store will offer on-site demonstrations, special promotions, new product offerings and unique Keurig accessories.

  • ShopperTrak anticipates holiday retail sales boost

    ShopperTrak, a leading provider of shopper analytics, anticipates a 2.4% rise in retail sales this holiday season, during November and December specifically, and expects total retail traffic to decrease 1.4% compared to the prior-year period. 

    Additionally, the company pointed out, retailers will have less time to capture peak holiday spending. There are only 25 days between Black Friday (Nov. 29) and Christmas this year, compared to 31 days in 2012. Unlike last year, consumers will have only four full weekends to shop, rather than the five they had last year.

  • Chili’s to install tabletop tablets from Ziosk

    Dallas -- Chili’s Grill & Bar will bring tabletop tablets from Ziosk to all company-owned restaurants nationwide by the first half of 2014.

    With the primary purpose of enhancing the guest experience, the Ziosk seven-inch tablet will be displayed on each table in the restaurant, giving patrons the ability to interactively peruse menu items and specials as well as order beverages and desserts. Customers can also use the tablets to play games together, share their real-time feedback with the brand and pay the check right at the table

  • Safeway adopts ‘poison pill’ to prevent takeover

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Safeway Inc. announced that it has adopted a one-year stockholder rights plan, or a “poison pill,” to discourage an unfriendly takeover.

    The company adopted the plan after it became aware that unnamed investors had accumulated “a significant amount” of its stock. The investor turned out to be hedge fund company Jana Partners, which disclosed in a filing that it has accumulated a 6.2% stake in the supermarket retailer.

  • Sycamore takes 8% stake in Aeropostale

    New York -- Private-equity firm Sycamore Partners disclosed through a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday that an affiliate, Hummingbird LLC, had taken an 8% stake in Aeropostale.

    Sycamore through its Hummingbird LLC unit, bought about 6.3 million shares of Aeropostale, according to the filing. That would make it the retailer’s fourth-largest shareholder, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

     

  • BJ's announces adopt-a-school program beneficiaries

    BJ's Wholesale Club has selected the elementary schools that are to benefit from the company's 2013-14 Adopt-a-School Program.

    In its eighteenth year, the program has served more than 2,575 elementary schools across the company's 15-state footprint. Each school chosen this year will receive a $500 check to use for field trips, special events, new equipment or curriculum enhancements, as well as a one-year membership to the wholesale club.
