But, before I get into more predictions on retail sales this holiday season, it might be a good idea to talk a little bit about why I’m feeling so lukewarm about the prospects for a 2013 end-of-year bonanza.

    Amazon has introduced a new service that streamlines how customers transact with online merchants. Login and Pay with Amazon allows customers of participating companies to go from browsing to buying in just a few clicks using their Amazon account information.

  • MasterCard partners with Wired to offer ‘in-content purchasing’

    Purchase, N.Y. -- MasterCard has partnered with Wired magazine to offer a one-touch shopping experience, right from their iOS device. This “in-content purchasing” concept allows readers to buy the products they are reading about right from the pages of editorial or ads.

  • Delhaize Europe CEO announces resignation

    The CEO of Delhaize Group's European division has resigned, effective Oct. 31, according to the Belgian supermarket operator.

    Delhaize said Stefan Descheemaeker had decided to resign as CEO of Delhaize Europe, though the company did not give a reason. Delhaize said that as a result of Descheemaeker's departure, Delhaize Group EVP and Delhaize Group Southeast Europe and Asia CEO Kostas Macheras would report directly to group CEO Pierre-Olivier Beckers, as would Delhaize Belgium CEO Dirk Van den Berghe, effective Nov. 1.

  • Hot Pockets ad campaign enlists Kate Upton and Snoop Dogg

    Hot Pockets is promoting its revamped sandwich line with the help of supermodel Kate Upton and rapper Snoop Dogg. The pair has teamed up in a parody music video called “You Got What I Eat” — a remix of Biz Markie’s 1989 hit single “Just a Friend (You Got What I Need).”

    The music video highlights the brand’s re-launch of its Hot Pockets sandwiches which feature 100% Angus Beef and Hickory Ham, real cheese and buttery seasoned crusts.

  • Overstock.com opens warehouse in Pa. in time for holiday

    Overstock.com has opened a distribution center in Jonestown, Pa., just in time for the holiday rush. The new operation means faster fulfillment of orders. Shipping products from the Jonestown facility will provide orders to customers from Maine to Florida within two days of order shipment.

  • CVS and 7-Eleven participating in new American Express cash-load program

    New York -- American Express Serve announced a free nationwide cash load network and the addition of new money management capabilities to its full-service reloadable prepaid account. The new features enable Serve customers to load cash for free at more Than 14,000 participating CVS/pharmacy and 7-Eleven stores

    The new features include: direct deposit, bill pay, mobile check capture, and personal financial management tools. These enhancements are designed to meet the needs of the nearly 70 million Americans underserved by traditional financial services.
