  • Uniqlo goes green in Northern California’s Great Mall

    Uniqlo plans to open a store at Great Mall in Milpitas, California, on Sept. 12 — the first location to feature a 100% eco-friendly design, with LED lighting, greener materials and high-efficiency elements throughout.

    The new store will also include specialty shopping vignettes that create a store-within-a-store feel in the women and children’s departments. In-store display materials will also include updated digital screens.

  • Survey: Speed of delivery key to holiday shopping

    Ann Arbor, Mich. – Almost nine-in-10 (88%) of consumers consider speed of delivery to be more important during the holiday season than at any other time of the year. According to the Holiday Fulfillment Report from CFI Group and EBay Enterprise that surveyed more than 500 consumers, 96% of respondents said guaranteed delivery dates are important when choosing which online retailer to purchase from.

    VF Corp., the company behind popular brands such as The North Face, Timberland and Wrangler, relied on the strength of its 1,300 unit retail operation to drive sales during the second quarter.

  • ShopKo looks to offer styling advice on new fashion blog

    Green Bay, Wis. — Shopko launched on Thursday its new fashion blog, TREND.spire, which takes current looks for women, all available at Shopko and Shopko.com, and illustrates how to pull everything together.

    The fashion blog at trendspire.shopko.com is updated weekly and a video, with a sneak peek of just some of the outfits, can be found here. Even more inspiration and information will be on Shopko's Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram pages.  

  • Electrolux focuses on recovery

    Electrolux president and CEO Keith McLoughlin reflected on the company's progress during the second fiscal quarter, pointing to prospects for growth.

    However, net sales decreased by about 4.9% year-over-year, totaling $26.3 billion for the three-month period. That decrease was slightly smaller for the six-month period — 2%.

    Meanwhile, the company posted a net loss of $92 million for the quarter. For the first six months, the company's net income of $339 million compares to net income of $1.003 billion for the same six-month period last year.

  • Kmart improves nationwide check-cashing service

    Kmart has been offering Shop Your Way members check-cashing services since September last year, but this week the retailer is making the service available for $1 or less, rather than $3. For the lowered price, members will be able to cash payroll and government checks up to $2,000 and personal checks up to $500.

  • PPG taps new COO

    PPG Industries, a leading coatings and specialty materials company, has elevated EVP Michael H. McGarry to chief operating officer, effective Aug. 1. He will remain based at PPG’s global headquarters in Pittsburgh and continue to report to chairman and CEO Charles E. Bunch.

    McGarry will have executive oversight responsibility for all of PPG’s strategic business units and operating regions and for the information technology (IT), environment, health and safety (EH&S) and purchasing functions.
