  • Guitar Center names former Sports Authority CEO as chief executive

    Los Angeles -- Guitar Center has named retailing veteran Darrell Webb as president and CEO, effective Nov. 17, 2014.    Webb previously served as chairman and CEO of Sports Authority from 2011 to 2013.   
  • UPS: 1 in 3 Canadian consumers will shop Black Friday, Cyber Monday

    Mississauga, Canada -- Canadian shoppers are off to an earlier start with holiday shopping. UPS Canada's annual Black Friday survey conducted by Leger shows that one-third of Canadians plan to take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.    The findings forecast that 20% of Canadian consumers will travel to the U.S. to shop for Black Friday deals and 32% of Canadian consumers will make online Cyber Monday purchases from U.S. retailers.   
  • Home Depot and Lowe's: buzzkill for environmentalists?

    Environmental advocates and building industry pros have long circled each other in conflict and cooperation, but it seems that there's a loud and growing faction of activists putting a relatively new issue on the map.

    That's because bees are dying -- suddenly, and often at once, numbering in the millions -- a troubling effect known as Colony Collapse Disorder that has been linked to the use of neonicotinoids, a type of insecticide that can be found on Lowe's and Home Depot shelves nationwide.

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. - All Dollar General stores now accept American Express cards as a form of payment. Dollar General operates more than 11,500 locations in 40 states.    “We strive to provide our customers with a simple and hassle-free shopping experience,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s COO.

  • Deloitte: Consumer spending dips in October

    New York -- The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index marginally dipped in October after two months of consecutive increases. The Index tracks consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending.    The Index, which comprises four components--tax burden, initial unemployment claims, real wages and real home prices--decreased to 4.1 in October from 4.4 the prior month.      Highlights of the Index include:

    Weston, Fla. –- Logistics and transportation provide DHL is changing the brand name of DHL Global Mail to DHL eCommerce as the company focuses to provide customers with new e-commerce solutions.  
  • Sears offers ‘Reserve It’ feature to loyalty members

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears has introduced "Reserve It,” a free service that lets Shop Your Way loyalty program members identify apparel and footwear items in-stock at their local store, place them on hold and then try them on in-store. Members log in to their Shop Your Way account on Sears.com and select their local Sears store; apparel and footwear product searches will now show items in-stock at that specific store.
