Stop & Shop sues Whole Foods for trademark violation

7/25/2008

BOSTON Stop & Shop has filed a federal lawsuit against Whole Foods alleging that the supermarket copied its marketing campaign.

As reported by The Boston Globe, Stop & Shop claimed that shortly after it launched its "Real Deal" campaign, Whole Foods Market began using the phrase "The Real Deal" to promote savings at its own store. The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Boston.

In the suit Stop & Shop is asking that Whole Foods be ordered to stop using the phrase "The Real Deal," saying that it will likely cause confusion. Whole Foods reportedly is reviewing its options.
