Saks Fifth Avenue partners with MasterCard on holiday window display and light show

11/3/2014

New York -- Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship in Manhattan will unveil its holiday window display and light show on Monday, Nov. 24. Presented by MasterCard, the show will integrate LEDs, strobes, up-lights, video projections and music.

The lighting interacts with the projected elements, turning the facade of the iconic store into a holiday spectacle. The show requires 71,000 lights, 11,000 linear feet of garlands, stretching 30 feet high, and six state-of-the-art 3D projectors with 26,000 lumens each.

"This year, everything from the projection and lightshow to the architectural decor is simply spectacular," said Mark Briggs, chief marketing and creative officer for Saks Fifth Avenue. "We have incorporated new, electrifying elements, making it an experience unlike any other…an experience to remember."

The entire show is an homage to the legacy of Saks Fifth Avenue, which was founded in the roaring '20s when shopping was glamorous. This season, Saks Fifth Avenue's six animated windows will be transformed into scenes from classic fairy tales rendered in an Art Deco style, with iconic New York locations providing the backdrop. From Rapunzel using her hair to swing about the Empire State Building or Snow White being tempted by an evil apple merchant in the heart of Times Square, each window depicts a different fantasy New York moment.

The remaining Saks Fifth Avenue windows will feature elegant fashion and holiday attire, all presented in an Art Deco style inspired by the artist Erte. The corner windows of the flagship store will have theatrical Erte-inspired costume pieces, which will further enhance the theater of the holidays at Saks Fifth Avenue.

For the first time, Saks Fifth Avenue will live stream the Holiday Window Unveiling on saks.com.
