Gander Mountain aims for gun safety with web initiative

4/5/2013

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Shortly after announcing the opening of its first firearms store in Minnesota, Gander Mountain came out with a new online and social media initiative aimed at promoting responsible gun ownership.

As part of its “With Rights Comes Responsibility; Secure Your Firearms” initiative, Gander Mountain today launched www.ResponsibilityPledge.com, where firearms owners and those thinking of becoming an owner can take a pledge of personal responsibility.

Gun owners can take the pledge and immediately share it via Facebook and Twitter, with the hashtag #ResponsibilityPledge.

The website includes a call-to-action video from NASCAR star Clint Bowyer, who on Wednesday joined Gander Mountain in announcing the “With Rights Comes Responsibility; Secure Your Firearms” initiative. Gander Mountain will sponsor Michael Waltrip Racing’s No. 15 car driven by Bowyer in the Sprint Cup Series NRA 500 on Saturday, April 13, at Texas Motor Speedway. The car will include a call for Americans to take the pledge.

“The response since we announced the ‘With Rights Comes Responsibility; Secure Your Firearms’ initiative Wednesday has been overwhelming and so positive. People were anxious to take the pledge, and now they can at www.ResponsibilityPledge.com,” said Steve Uline,EVP marketing for Gander Mountain. “This is only the beginning. We’re committed to making this a movement, and excited about the boost it will receive next week at the Texas race.

In addition to the website, Gander Mountain has launched acompany policy calling for all employees to ask all customers who purchase a firearm if they are properly equipped to safeguard it.
