Amazon unveils fall books preview
Amazon released the book titles its editors chose to include in the online retailer’s Big Fall Books Preview. The books on the list, which will be released in the coming months, are expected by Amazon to be the most popular 20 books of the season.
The books chosen span genres from fantasy to memoir to history, and everything in between, and include new titles from Jodi Picoult, Steven King and George R.R. Martin — whose “A Song of Ice & Fire” series serves as source material for the HBO series “Game of Thrones.”
“Fall is traditionally the biggest season for books and there are so many fantastic reads in store for our customers this year,” Amazon’s editorial director of books and Kindle, Sara Nelson, said. “My team and I read through hundreds of new titles to narrow down our top picks. We’ve got books by names you know along with some by authors we were excited to discover.”
In addition to some big names in literature, the list also includes one celebrity’s first foray into the bookstore — Neil Patrick Harris, whose autobiography will be a choose-your-own-adventure book, due out Oct. 14. Also following the screen-to-page trajectory are comedian and actress Amy Poehler whose book “Yes Please” is due out Nov. 6 and “Girls” creator Lena Dunham, whose collection of personal essays will be released Sept. 30.
The editors also included under-the-radar picks that includes memoirs — including one from an Afghanistan veteran — and literary fiction from the likes of Colm Tóíbín and Gregory Maguire, whose debut novel “Wicked” inspired the Broadway show and whose new book “Egg and Spoon” is out Sept. 9.
