Amazon says ‘Happy Prime Day’ on July 15

7/6/2015

Seattle – July is often a slow-paced month for consumers, but Amazon.com is seeking to change that. In an effort to promote its Amazon Prime paid loyalty program, the retailer is encouraging customers to celebrate “Prime Day,” a one-day global shopping event on July 15 that is says will have more deals than Black Friday.

Amazon is offering free 30-day trials of the normally $99 per year service, which offers unlimited expedited shipping for members, as well as free same-day delivery in 14 U.S. metropolitan areas. Prime also now offers video and music streaming, as well as photo storage services.

New and existing Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada and Austria will be eligible for Prime Day. The promotion also includes a #PrimeLiving photo contest where Prime members can submit a photo of themselves at their happiest for posting on Amazon’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. One Prime account in each participating country will be chosen to receive $10,000 in Amazon gift cards and have their photo become a screen saver on Amazon Fire TV.

“Prime Day is a one-day only event filled with more deals than Black Friday, exclusively for Prime members around the globe,” said Greg Greeley, VP, Amazon Prime. “Members tell us every day how much they love Prime and we will keep making it better. If you’re not already a Prime member, you’ll want to join so you don’t miss out on one of the biggest deals extravaganzas in the world.”
