  • CVS/pharmacy launches in-store fundraising campaign for ALS, cystic fibrosis research

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy has launched a new in-store fundraising campaign named Advancing Medical Research, to support medical research and help improve the quality of life for those living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and cystic fibrosis (CF).  Funds raised through the campaign will benefit the ALS Therapy Alliance (ATA), a leading organization dedicated to advancing ALS research, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the world's leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis.

  • Dollar Tree announces two-for-one stock split

    Chesapeake, Va. -- Dollar Tree has approved a 2-for-1 stock split in the form of a 100% common stock dividend. The new shares will be distributed June 26 for shareholders of record as of the close of business on June 12.

    With the stock split, the number of outstanding shares of the company's common stock will increase from approximately 116 million shares, pre-split, to approximately 232 million shares, post-split.

  • Kroger launches food bank charity campaign

    CINCINNATI — Kroger has launched a new campaign to generate $4 million in cash and good donations to assist 80 local food banks in the communities it serves.

  • Neiman Marcus on the Cusp of contemporary fashion

    DALLAS — Neiman Marcus is rebranding its contemporary departments within each of the 42 Neiman Marcus stores as Cusp shop-in-shops. 

    Neiman Marcus first launched the Cusp brand in 2006 with two freestanding stores that offered customers a contemporary assortment including apparel, shoes, handbags and accessories in a boutique environment. The brand has grown over time and now includes a total of six Cusp stores and Cusp.com.

  • Bombay& Co. selects TD Retail Card Services for private label credit card program

    Mahwah, N.J. -- Bombay & Co. Inc. has selected TD Retail Card Services, a unit of TD Bank, to create and administer its private label credit card.

    Under the agreement, TD will direct all facets of the program for the Toronto-based company’s 50 stores located in Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec. The new Bombay & Co. credit card will offer consumers a full menu of deferred interest and equal pay programs.

  • Fred's names new board member

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred's has named Steven Fitzpatrick to its board of directors. Fitzpatrick will be presented as one of the director nominees at the company's 2012 annual meeting to be held later this summer.

  • Lowe's to donate $50K to winner of Facebook design contest

    MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Lowe's is asking its Facebook fans to vote on their favorite design in the 2012 Lowe’s Designer Challenge and help one of the nation's top lifestyle experts win $50,000 for the charity of their choice. Elaine Griffin, Danny Seo and Marcela Valladolid designed spring vignettes using Lowe’s latest line of outdoor living products for spring and summer entertaining.

    I’ve read a few thought-provoking articles recently about the state of the retail real estate marketplace that make the observation that A malls are generally doing better while B malls are continuing to tread water—or even beginning to fade away. Once again, I have to disagree on the B malls.
