Kirkland's 4Q sales, comps up

2/5/2010

Nashville, Tenn. Kirkland's Inc. said late Thursday that comp-store sales rose 10.2% in the fourth quarter, compared with the year-ago period. The home decor retailer said customers responded well to its seasonal items and core merchandise mix.

Total sales for the period ended Jan. 30 increased 7% to $142.8 million from $133.6 million.

President and CEO Robert Alderson said in a statement that the company's sales were above expectations during and after the critical holiday sales period, which was less promotional than the previous year.

Kirkland's ran 279 stores at year's end.
