    SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. Markets has promoted David Harris to the position of SVP finance, CFO and principal accounting officer of Stater Bros. Markets, effective June 18.  

  • Survey: Consumers to spend $300 on back-to-school

    New York -- A survey released Tuesday by the International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman-Sachs found that 42% of U.S. consumers expect to spend more on back-to-school items this year than they did in 2011.

    With the back-to-school shopping season already well underway as one-third of households reported that they have begun to shop, ICSC and Goldman-Sachs expect the average household expenditure on all types of back-to-school items will be about $300 this year.

  • Aisle411 store map app now directing consumer traffic in all Walgreens stores

    PALO ALTO, Calif. — Aisle411, a mobile retail navigation service, on Tuesday announced that its virtual mapping and navigation smartphone application is available to use in all of Walgreens' 7,907 drug stores nationwide.

    With Aisle411's in-store mapping platform, customers can use their smartphones to view maps of any Walgreens store, allowing shoppers to locate products down to a particular section of each aisle. Walgreens is the first national retailer with all of its stores mapped in a mobile application, Aisle411 stated.

  • Barnes & Noble finds new opportunity for Nook expansion

    NEW YORK — Customers who want to explore digital reading, but aren't ready to commit to buying an e-reader can now do so through Barnes & Noble's new Nook for Web service. The service is free and customers need only a PC or Mac browser to access the content. No software download, sign-in or Nook account is required. According to the company, the service will be available this fall on Internet-enabled tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices.

  • Weis Markets celebrates anniversary with 100-day price freeze

    SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets has lowered the prices on over 1,000 staple items and that it will freeze the prices of these products for 100 days in recognition of its 100 year anniversary this year. 

    It is the Company's ninth Price Freeze since 2009.

  • Talbots buyot extended

    NEW YORK — TLB Merger Sun, an affiliate of Sycamore Partners, has extended the expiration of its tender offer to acquire all of the outstanding shares of common stock, and the associated stock purchase rights, of The Talbots Inc. for $2.75 per share, net to the seller in cash, without interest, and less any applicable withholding taxes, to 5 p.m., New York City time, on Friday, July 27, unless further extended.

  • Barnes & Noble announces finance appointments

    New York -- Barnes & Noble announced the appointment of Thomas Donohue as VP treasurer, and Kanuj Malhotra as VP corporate development.

    The company also said it has promoted Andy Milevoj to VP investor relations, all reporting directly to Mike Huseby, CFO.
