Meijer is the latest retailer to expand the range of products delivered by Instacart beyond the online delivery platform’s core grocery offering.
The Midwestern discount chain is partnering with Instacart to provide same-day delivery of groceries and household essentials, as well as a broad selection of general merchandise, from nearly all stores. Categories available for delivery in as little as an hour via Instacart include home decor, toys and crafts, garden, sports and outdoor, office, and electronics.
Instacart has been substantially expanding the range of goods it delivers since the North American outbreak of COVID-19 in March. Other retailers who have rolled out delivery of non-grocery/CPG items via Instacart include Best Buy, H&M Canada, Sephora, Staples, and Big Lots.
"Instacart's mission is to give customers access to the food they love and more time to enjoy it together,” said Nilam Ganenthiran, president of Instacart. “In 2020, this commitment has taken on an entirely new meaning as we continue to serve as an essential, same-day delivery service for millions of people across North America. Customers rely on Instacart to get the groceries and goods they need from the retailers they love, and today we're proud to welcome Meijer to our marketplace so they can further connect with their customers online.”
Based in Grand Rapids, Mich., Meijer operates 253 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. Instacart has partnered with more than 500 national, regional and local retailers to deliver from nearly 40,000 stores across more than 5,500 cities in North America.
