Target giving shoppers--and employees--a breather on Thanksgiving

11/6/2017
Target Corp. is stepping back from the concept of shopping all-nighters.

For the fourth straight year, Target will open its stores at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. New this year, however, stores will close at midnight and reopen on Friday at 6 a.m. In recent years, Target stores remained open throughout the night. (Target made its announcement the same day that Toys "R" Us said its stores will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving and remain open for 30 straight hours.)

"We know that shopping Black Friday deals at Target is an annual tradition for many of our guests across the country,” said Janna Potts, Target executive VP and chief stores officer. “Our hours for this year ensure we’re ready with great deals for those guests who want to shop following their Thanksgiving dinner, while also giving our teams a chance to recharge and prepare our stores before we open on Friday to greet guests with even more holiday savings.”

Also new this year, Target is giving holders of its REDcard early access to more than 100 Black Friday deals on Target.com. The "Early Access" sale starts early the morning of Nov. 22. In another new initiative, shoppers who spend $50 on Black Friday will receive a coupon for 20 percent off a future shopping trip between Nov. 28 and Dec. 10.

Target is giving holiday shoppers a jump on their holiday shopping by offering select Black Friday deals across many categories in all of its stores on Monday November 6 and on its web site until 11:59 p.m. PST. New this year, discounts will be applied automatically at checkout, with no coupon or codes required.

As previously announced, Target is offering free shipping on all online orders until Dec. 23.
